Given that I had booked on the brightest day of the week on a beat that I have never fished before I wasn't too optimistic but after lunch I made my way to the river and set up on a stick float and centrepin reel and within half an hour I had a barbel of about 6lb on the bank a short time later I caught two chub to 4+3/4lb before the weather cleared and got even brighter.went on the feeder with pellet for the last hour and had another barbel over 8lbs.A beautiful stretch of river and being mid -week there were only a couple of anglers on the far bank.Barbel and big chub on the 'pin', can't beat it!

First time on the beat. Pretty section of the Wye however water still low from previous weeks heatwave. Late start and
an early finish resulting in no fish caught. Frustrated with conditions, low water, 4 anglers on opposite bank.

Went with my 11 year old lad as a treat before starting secondary school. Day was nice an overcast, but the river was very low and clear. We concentrated on the lower end of the beat, where the flow is concentrated on the near side. Junior started well with a nice 6lb barbel on meat, but the swim then went quiet, so we moved... that set a bit of a pattern for what was a sketchy kind of day, we'd get a bite (and sometimes land it!) in a swim, but then it would die off and we'd have to move again. Eventually we established three swims which we rotated, feeding them as we left for the next one. Towards 6pm or so, the fishing got a little better and we managed to get two or three bites in a swim before having to move. We ended up with 5 barbel (one of which was a "baby", the others regular shoal size) and 1 decent chub of 4lb. Dad was left rueing what might have been, having lost an epic battle with a fish that weeded itself three times, but was subsequently moved with successive combinations of slack line and then steady pressure, only for the reel to malfunction and seize! It may have been the monster we were seeking but we'll never know. An enjoyable day all the same in stunning surroundings. Stayed down the road at The Falcon House, not for the first time and undoubtedly not for the last either, a lovely establishment run by very nice people and a great breakfast to boot....

River low - opposite bank busy through the day! Feeder fished pellet and hemp. Caught through the day and I was thoroughly thrashed by my daughter 9 barbel to my 2. Combined with the previous days fishing we had a red letter couple of days with a first Wye Double for Kelly at 10:4. Another trip is already being planned.
Be prepared to walk though as its quite a trek with all the gear!

could only fish the swims upstream of the access path due to amount of anglers fishing from the other bank .
fishing was slow in the morning , 1 barbel and 1 small chub. much better after 14.00 with 7 barbel ( average size about 6/7 lb but one better one of just under 10 lb ) and 3 more chub averaging 3/4 lb.
bait was hinders barbel blitz pellets .

This is a great beat, with plenty of variety, some swims do need the agility of a mountain goat. The majority of swims are accessible. All fish were caught on feeder and pellet.

Only fished from 4.30pm until dark and had a barbel and a chub in my first 2 casts! Had another barbel and another chub soon after and then very quiet for a few hours and then 2 more barbel as it got dark. All fished caught on feeder with boilie hook baits. Lovely stretch, lots of owls in the nearby woods. Only negative point would be the amount of anglers on the opposite bank which cuts down your options of swim somewhat. There was about 8-10 on a Wednesday so imagine the weekends could be busy. Access is easy and some comfortable swims to fish if that's what you're looking for.

first time on this beat, very impressed.feel we could have caught more if we had'nt had to deal with a lot of weed and debris being washed down by a rising river. Just a note to others visiting for the first time, when wet take care in some swims as access can be steep and very slippery.
