The river was quite clear and fairly low, we fished under bushes in the eddies with a ground bait feeder and luncheon meat. We were told by everyone that we should go for long hook lengths as it was going to be tough going but had no luck so shortened eventually down to 1 foot and all fish fell to this rig. Fish sizes - barbel 5lb 9oz, 6lb and 10lb 3oz, Chub 3lb.

Started about midday. Conditions hot & sunny and river low.
Fished a couple of likely swims without success.
Moved and eventually found some barbel, and caught 15 throughout the afternoon and evening. The bites came fairly steadily and the fish averaged 6-7 lbs with the biggest at 8lbs plus. To be honest it was probably more than we expected in the conditions.

Water level was very low, fish were active in the morning and at dusk, the strong wind and the sun didn't help. I lost few fish in the snags, but managed to catch a bonus... eels, of proper size on luncheon meat! Very nice beat but vegetation makes swims very narrow, at low level of Wye it can be a problem.

Back to the beat after a short evening session. River quite low but some colour, weather was changeable from showers to clear skies. Relieved to find that the deeper water swims were available with no anglers casting into them from the opposite bank that meant we stood a better chance with the Barbel. Between us landed 6 Barbel to 8lbs including one of under a pound the rest around the 4-6lbs mark throughout the day lost 5 to snags and hook pulls. A few nice chub caught up to 4lbs and a couple of eels which seem to be making a bit of a come back. On our 4 day trip we caught a total of 13 eels.

Having fished this beat 2 years ago we were looking forward to our first session from late afternoon having driven up from London earlier. We were disappointed to find two anglers set up with their platforms stationed in mid river, fishing the deep water close in to our bank in the swims we had planned to fish. They left after a few of hours so my fishing partner was able to fish one of the swims and landed 3 immaculate Barbel to 7lbs 3 Chub and an eel. I stayed in the first swim by the line of trees and caught a nice Barbel around 4lbs later on. We were booked in the next day for a full session on the beat.

Despite the fishery owner driving over my tackle box at the top of the bank we had a great day. River low and clear and sunny all day. Would suggest anglers leave their stuff on the slope, not at the top of the bank. My 10 year old fishing partner had a nice chub early on and the owner visited and suggested another swim nearby had been successful for an angler the day before so we moved there. It was good advice and we began with a surprising 9 pound two ounce barbel at about 3pm to ledgered pellet. Another 8 (a small one pounder, four five pounders and three hard fighting seven pounders) followed before sundown between us. We shared a swim and the barbel. Some fantastic fishey battles in a beautiful part of the Wye valley and an experience neither of us will forget soon. Thanks to all.

Very hot day, with low clear water. Started fishing the lower end of the beat near the gravel bar opposite. Started early and managed 4 barbel in the first couple of hours. Then the men came with a mechanical digger, tractors and trailers and they started removing gravel from the bar opposite, so the fishing died (maybe a blessing). So I went for a walk and spotted a couple of barbel under the weeds. In the next 3 hours I had another 7 barbel a few chub and an eel. So feeling pretty chuffed, I went for some lunch. I got back at about 6pm and fished till starting to go dark. Managed a further 13 barbel. A really fanastic day. Most fell to small 6mm pellets, with some on meat. One small eel made up the catch.

With temperatures getting close to 30 and not a cloud in the sky and the river low and clear it was hard going.
Found fish under the weed at the top of the beat and spent a long time watching. Managed two chub to 4lb later in the day put on chest waders and fished the top swim and found some good dace to sweetcorn.

This is a one of my favourite stretches. The fishing wasn't easy, very hot weather and low river conditions and the downstream section fished better for us. Very enjoyable day and will return for sure.

River was low and water clear so not ideal. Barbel taken on both days but fishing overall very slow. Barbel weights from 5 to 10 pound. Chub from 2 to 4/5 pounds. 10 eels showed up and a single carp taken from a peg to the right of the line of trees. Barbel taken on pegs to the left of the trees. All fish in good nick. Meat, pellets and sweetcorn all successful. Beautiful location, it was hot and dry Saturday, wet Sunday morning soon dried up but pegs are very tricky to access when wet. Seems the owners prefer cars parked by the line of trees. Tip, to park by the trees take the second ungated opening and swing right this will leave your sump in place. Everyone enjoyed the sessions and highly recommend the Old Mill at Hoarwithy for accommodation. Breakfast is delicious and just keeps coming sets you up for the day. Booking process with WUF was straightforward and staff are friendly and helpful. We will be booking again for certain.
