Day 1 of 4 on WUF stretches. River was still very low. Fished a number of swims between 7am - 12pm, but only managed 1 eel. Returned to fish the evening with better results. 5 Barbel all around the 5lb mark.
Some well cut out pegs, but much of the stretch (including what looks like the best part) is inaccessible. If we return it will be with shears, rope and a large stake!

Although a good day was had by all including a 3lb eel and P.B. barbel for a fellow angler. The lack of prepared pegs was a concern. Also fishermen from the other bank sat in the middle of the river fishing the side we booked was also a concern.

Our first visit to the Wye and we will return. A good day was had by all. The weather played a part in what was a difficult day. Great for sun bathing BUT not for fishing!
I would say the pegs need a little more love and attention to allow greater access to all of them. Also fishermen from the other bank were an issue casting across to "our" side.

We turned up on this beat on Friday the 26 July, walked the whole beat. The Foundation sold us three permits and were unable to fish as there are only two fishable pegs there. I phoned the Wye and Usk Foundation and they said you might have to go through the brambles or bushes to fish. That's not a good enough answer when your paying twenty pounds per person to fish! The whole beat is overgrown. We fished Lower Hill Court on the previous Wednesday and we all caught barbel and chub, in tough conditions.

WUF note - We encourage anglers to read the catch returns for a beat before booking as there is a great variation in the types of beats available and the condition of the banks and bank side vegetation. Some anglers prefer the wild style of fishing and having to cut their own swims where as other anglers prefer ready made swims and better managed bank side vegetation.

4 chub (3 - 3.5lbs)+ 2 eels caught by one angler a couple of swims down from the pumping station on medium elipse pellets - (first time I have lip hooked two eels consecutively!). Angler 2 fished the fast water at the lower end of the fishery and did not get a touch. Water levels very low as expected and probably not conducive to barbel feeding during the day.
Two anglers fished the opposite bank to the fast water at the bottom end of the fishery until lunchtime. Presumably these anglers were sold day tickets or were guests of the landowner/farmer. This did limit swims we could fish on the day.

Another lovely beat with some nice swims, unfortunately the fish didn't want to know. One barbel of about 3 pounds caught late on, maybe if we had stayed later we could have caught a few more, but after a full day in the heat, a few cold beers and a nice meal at the Greenman at Fownhope (highly recommended) seemed more appealing. Look forward to returning to this beat in more favourable conditions.

Only fished the afternoon and evening, 1 barbel about 12 ozs and 2 small chub. Fished 6 pegs at the lower end of the fishery. Just couldn't get them to feed. Lovely place and a great day. Weed did prove to be a bit of a problem.

Very hot blazing sunshine made fishing difficult, location and bait choice important. Sweetcorn worked for me and I had 6 barbel and 1 chub including 2 lovely baby barbel - future looks good.

Fished 2pm til 9:30pm. Scorching hot, no wind or breeze to take the edge off the heat. Patchy during the day with Chub taken on the float and Barbel on pellet in the evening.
River quite low. Lovely beat, will return.
