The water was very high and made the fishing rather difficult. The the water was coming through at a tremendous pace. I did however manage to catch a barbel of around 5lb and a chub of around 4lb on Halibet pellet. As the water was continuing to rise and fishing conditions were not good as it rained most of the day and the banks were slippery I reluctantly decided to come home two days early.
The Wye River has wonderful potential for barbel and chub my main target but the contitions were far from perfect. That's fishing. I did find other anglers and the fishing tackle shop in the area very friendly and helpful and managed to gather a lot of information for next time.

7 barbel to 8lb all caught after 6pm. Some swims very snaggy. No problems with fishermen from opposite bank which was a nice change. Thank you WUF.

13 barbel and 2 chub. Floody conditions at 4 foot up meant moving around, even the big pool had pace. Plenty of snags though found fishing 'blind'. A really special visual place, with total quiet much of the time, provided no-one on the opposite bank. A result.

Lovely looking spot although the river was up approx 12 feet when I first arrived on Saturday, in fact my normal dog walking routes were under water around Ross. This meant only a limited number of swims were fishable,I found an area of slack water and fished the crease for seven barbel to about 7lb and two lost. Will try again in September, this beat was new to me and looks worth exploring.

First time on the Wye and always difficult to get to grips with a new stretch but I managed 4 Chub all around 3-4lb from Rock Pool and further upstream.
Beautiful days fishing and worth staying on until dusk as bites increased then. Will be back.

First time on this beat for us. It's definitey a beautiful place particularly at the bottom end looking down river - wonderful! From a fishing perspective there is clearly a lot of work been put in creating "permanent" swims but choice is still somewhat restricted with a fair proportion of the beat inacessible.
We managed 2 barbel & a chub between us and lost a couple of barbel. The best barbel went 8.10. We were also unfortunate to encounter a Welsh "gentleman" fishing on the far bank who clearly owned the entire river as he proceeded to tell us in a very rude and aggressive manner that we were not allowed to fish anywhere near him! We had no intention of doing so but his manner was disgusting!

Arrived to find another beautiful stretch of river, roved the length, and managed 8 barbel to 7lb 11oz, and 2 chub to 4lbs. The angler load on the river is just right for such beautiful, tranquil surroundings, keep up the good work.
