Unfortunately due to the snow overnight on thurs the river was slightly coloured with a little melt water which appeared to kill sport stone dead.

Our first visit to this stretch saw a bright, calm day with the birdsong broken only by the afternoon pheasant-shoot on the opposite bank. Comfortable conditions for fishermen but evidently not conducive to fish feeding, as the week’s wintry downpours had ensured the river was running high, coloured and very cold.
We had anticipated a challenging day and so it turned out.
An initial exploration of options resulted in one of us settling-in mid-beat and two in the lower section.
Despite the usual array of pellets, luncheon meat and cheese-paste, the fish proved elusive throughout the day, with only one, albeit beautifully conditioned Chub of 2lb 7oz, to show for all our efforts (taken on pellet in lower section by CH).
So R.E.’s quest for a first-ever Barbel continues!
Nevertheless, an enjoyable day in wonderful surroundings (possibly not so enjoyable for the pheasants!).
Thanks to Alison and in particular Adam for the very helpful conversation prior to booking.
Having endured a series of problems in recent months with prominent organisations such as Apple, Travelodge and Royal Caribbean, the ordering experience once again pleasantly reminded me that the customer-service offered by the WUF is truly first-class.

I fished the lower limit of this beat in the Rock Pool area and focused my efforts on catching a pike. The river conditions were good and I was hopeful of a few fish but only managed 1 pike of approx 5-6Lb.
The countryside here is stunning and I would definately return again and a real plus point was the ease of access as parking just a 50yd walk from the river.

As per the previous day, caught a few chub on pellet, barbel were not in evidence. River still pushing through strongly and fishing very tough. Will try again when river has calmed down a bit.

Caught a few chub on pellet, barbel not showing but conditions were difficult since this river had burst its banks the previous week, and although down was still high and pushing through a bit too hard. This stretch I think favours lower water conditions.

7 chub up to 4lb 14oz on cheese paste, meat and maggots. River rose about 2' in the afternoon which seemed to slow action. Thanks to the WUF for a fantastic years fishing.

Water level was up by 3 feet according to land owner. Fished the lower point of the beat. It is deeper and slower. The main current was quite fast, my 150g lead couldn't hold bottom. Caught 4 chub biggest about 5lb, 2 came on luncheon meat and 2 on cheese paste towards the end of the session. All in all memorable days fishing.

Despite this being the best of the 4 days again another blank. Great surroundings and company but I think the river got the better of us. Only had one take and this was lost to a snag under my feet.
