As this was the last day of the mild spell I negotiated a fishing day with The Long Suffering Pauline (TLSP) and headed here as 2 good chub had come from the bottom swim recently - my usual MHC having produced 3 blanks on the last three reports.
I fished the bottom swim in the morning for 2 chub and the last 2 hours for 1 chub, all about 4lb, on GB feeder and maggot or meat. I tied 3 swims above it in between for only one missed bite. As it was as a mild as Spring and with a 7 degree water temp I'd hoped for more but was happy with the 3 chub. I apologise again to the pike angler who booked on the day who I suspected of being a poacher as as at 0900 I was still the only person booked on. Turned out he was legit and we eventually came to an amicable agreement on use of THE swim and both a decent example of our target quarry out of it.

River in lovely condition and a slight increase in temperature gave us confidence of a few bites.

I was Pike fishing and had one low double in the morning and pulled out of another slightly bigger in the afternoon.
My Dad had a great day. Bites were still difficult to come by overall but the rewards were there for persistence on a mixture of maggot feeder and bread. Two Chub 5lb and 5lb 1oz.

Always a great day on this beat, bites or not. Really well maintained and just a pleasant spot to be on a chilly winters day.

The floods left a large deposit of logs by the gate so you’ll need to go onto the bridge then climb over into the field at the moment . Saw the bailiff and he mentioned they’ll be down to clear it at some point. Pictures attached.

-5 degrees C, not a touch between us, but at least the river was fishable at last!

I arrived to find the river just inside its banks in the morning, by the time I'd left it had flooded the field behind me, the only swim I could fish was the slack water at the start of the beat, I thought this would be the case anyway before I left home but was still hopeful for a barbel or two, unfortunately I didn't manage any.

A blank, doubtless owing to it being below freezing most of the morning. Had to pack up at 1 pm - whilst loading the car saw an angler arrive who must have parked further down the lane, not in a designated parking place, and move into the swim I had just vacated. Was pike fishing. White male, 5 feet 10/6 feet, medium build, 40s, camo jacket and rucksack, single olive rod sleeve, large fold up lure net. Nobody else booked on, I found upon arriving home and having internet connection, so can only assume was poaching. Have fished two W&U beats so far this season, this one twice, never had a ticket checked, so might be time to wise up a bit?
