The river was very high today
Fished the slack water in the bottom pools, but really struggled with the amount of trees ( yes ! trees) and branches coming down river.
Packed up early and blanked

I took advantage of the brief mild spell on Friday. The river had dropped overnight and had good colour.
The barbel was 8lb 1oz and fell to meat. Both Chub were between 1 and 2 lbs.
As always the wildlife was abundant and the highlight was an otter in my swim with its head up swimming backwards in the current and looking directly at me!
In summary, a slow day with only 4 bites but I can't think of anywhere else I would have rather been.

A hard day on a beautiful beat. I adopted a roaming approach fishing the entire length of the beat during the day and pre baiting 4 swims to fish in the afternoon. Only managed 2 Chub c.3lb each. A variety of baits used Inc. Pellet, meat, pork pie, and cheese.
The river was very low for November, with the level at only 0.7m at the nearest guaging point. I'll put this down to experience and will come back to this beat soon.

River looked good expected better but still enjoyed it, barbel about 7lb chub just over a pound a piece.

Fished the bottom end and disappointed with the swims - for about 200 yards only one swim safe to fish and even that was treacherous - very long landing net pole essential and even then a struggle to land fish and not fall in on most pegs I saw.

I’m going to take a stake and rope next outing please all be very careful especially if fishing alone

A very difficult day on a cold and low (dropping) river. Thought we would struggle for a barbel but even the big chub had no interest in feeding today despite catching many here previously. Trotting produced plenty to about a pound with the largest one falling to leger tactics at dusk (about 3lb). That was the only one above a pound between 2 anglers.
