Did not fish due to heavy rain, walked the stretch, it’s a very pretty beat but I don’t think it’s conducive to trotting from the bank

Fished weighted nymph hoping for a Grayling but drew a blank. Water quite high still, not really suitable for wading so bank fished - hard going but still a good day on the river in decent weather.

Great to get back out on the Arrow. Fished from 10am to 4pm, trotting maggots. Weather was good with some nice winter sun and milder conditions. River a little high 0.38m at Titley Mill.
Five grayling landed all around 10" to 12" and an out of season trout.

Wasn't sure what to expect as I've not seen the Arrow in winter, 0.44 on the gauge and bombing through. A lot of the pools were boiling up and difficult to fish, trotting maggot today. Made the mistake of using my 12ft with centre pin and no line guard, lesson learnt on a small stream with a blustery downstream wind. Searched all the runs I could, the fish were difficult to find and spread out today. I was rewarded in the end by 2 lovely grayling, one about 1lb, the other 1.5lb. I also had 4 OOS trout.
Access was pretty good after the floods had flattened out the bankside growth, tried to stay out of the water as much as I could, disinfected my waders and net before and after. I think I prefer this beat in the trout season, judging by previous catch returns lately appears to be more trout than grayling although if you do get one it's a decent size. Look forward to this one again in the spring.

Fished 3-6pm, no hatch to speak of, no fish rising. Saw more of the beat this time, some lovely riffles into deeper runs and pools, lower end of the beat looked good for dry fly found it difficult to get an access point to the river here. Deeper pools and fallen trees made progress upstream difficult and getting in and out was a struggle in places with the bankside vegetation. That being said, very enjoyable fishing. Ran out of time to do the last section up to the bridge. Fished nymphs, caught on a selection of small buggy bead head types.

A tough day on a very overgrown beat. I failed to estimate that the undergrowth but be at its highest and hence access to the water proved tricky.
Where I could get in I would have one cast then catch a tree or the bank. I lost a decent OOS grayling that took a dry and had a couple of refusals. Fly life was great but not many rising fish in evidence. I suspect if Id stayed until the sun was off the water this may have been different.
A first for me was to see a mole swimming across the river, moles can swim, who knew??

Short afternoon session today, was supposed to be a recon mission but tempted by some nice pools and runs at the top of the beat I didn't explore much. What I did see was encouraging, will come back for sure. Car park might do with a trim otherwise excellent access with pipe on the barbed wire noting access points, nice touch. 1 WBT on small nymph, klink and dink, no rises.
