The lower section below the bridge has camping activity along the bank and the river has been heavily impacted by human activity with rocks piled into dams and pools etc across the river. I would not bother fishing this section.
Above the bridge is much better with a series of runs and glides that are very promising. Tree branches hang low over the river. I used a 2-wt 6ft rod mostly with olive dun and similar to match the insects seen on the day.
Unfortunately I blanked. But had fun.

Very tricky in worryingly low water. Shame this cannot now be tagged on to the beat below. The campsite in the lower section means bottom section is disturbed. Anyway..very beautiful and delighted to at least catch one and rise several given the bright, clear, skinny conditions.

Fished the top end of Maes y beran from just below bridge at campsite to beat boundary, water was very low which is a worry for this time of year. A few brook duns coming off, but only the odd fish taking them. We caught good numbers of fish from 7 to 11 inches, most on nymphs fished 'duo' style in the deeper pools and runs.

Back visiting the area and hoped the Honndu trout would be active. Lovely warm day with some bright sun. Water at good height very clear. But only intermittent fly life, trout ignored the few around. Tried copper john, ptn, grhe and black perdigon but nothing 10.30 to 4.00. Ah well, fantastic to be back in the hills!!

Really nice water, although this time of year there are lots of campers on the campsites adjacent to the river, i started off under the bridge and made my way up stream. Had plenty of rises and hooked plenty of fish on an Elk caddis but only managed one to the hand. space is tight so a 7'6 2wt was the rod of choice and bow and arrow and roll casts were the order of the day. although in a couple of places a side cast or overhead could just about be managed. Great fun.
I fished this beat and Lower Henlan in the same day, i managed 6 hours across both and suspect i barely covered a 3rd of the total water, need to come back and explore properly one day.

Beautiful remote surroundings! I would pick the hottest day in July so far to experience this wild stream, 24 degrees.
So not the most favourable conditions for trout but a beautiful day none the less. Eventually managed to winkle out 2, on a Jonathan Barnes Black magic nymph. I only saw 1 rise in the whole day. No takers on the dry fly.
Would go again but not in July.

Fished this beat and lower Henllan together. Elk hair caddis took them all in fast water.

A first look at this beat. As the WUF description implies, most of it (especially above the bridge) consists of steep gradient fast flowing shallow riffle. I spent some time throwing nymphs into this to no avail. Later in the afternoon, with a fair few mayflies coming off, an occasional rising fish showed in a couple of the deeper slower runs. After missing two takes to a para Adams, one from a sizeable fish, the third one (the smallest of course) saved the blank. A pleasant few hours in a beautiful valley.

After the rain stopped it turned out a nice day with sunny spells. Rain will help the river although it is still running well and very clear. Given a variety of insects on the water and one or two rises, I decided to stick with dries and paras for some fun at the end of the season. Landed 4 at 8 to 10 inches, each on a different pattern and each from the faster water.
