Struggled today with the fish being very spooky. Perhaps it was the very low, clear water conditions but I left the river with the feeling someone had gone through before me. Most of the fish that were rising melted away once my fly went over them, even on the few occasions when my presentation was good.
The lower sections of the beat are a little overgrown with a couple of the more fishy spots almost impossible to get at. The upper section through Lyonshall wood is fantastic though and much easier to put a cast out.
Nevertheless it was great to be out in the wonderful Arrow valley. There were plenty of large brook duns hatching plus a few early mayflies. And I did manage to bring three wild browns to hand with a few lost so all in all, another lovely day's fishing.

Met the local pack on arrival at Hunton Bridge also out for its daily exercise. Found the river low and clear where there was good flow, with what appeared to be some eutrophication in the slower sections and margins. A couple of rises early on while the sun shone and eventually a decent brownie took the Adams under Titley Bridge. Two more to the net, three self-released and several missed takes in the deeper pools made for an entertaining day. There was an occasional mayfly about and a brief flurry of activity mid p.m. Great to be out again.

Well with Mrs A working till about three , I saw on the met office app that later on weather improving , so that was the green light to get out there and fish a beat for a couple of hours !!!!
Gave The Lyonshall beat of the Arrow a bash this morning , parked at the bottom bridge , looked pretty racey and a bit coloured but kitted up , what the hell , and got going . . . .
Things were pretty hectic , and as I slipped into the river by the bridge , further up was a splashy aggressive rise to a mayfly , yeeeeeeeeeees I thought , Danica is gracing us on a blustery day like today , Great stuff !!!!!
The glides between the two bridges were the best sport today , close in , hammering the Mohican mayfly , and during the time I was there , eleven till two ish , managed to bring to hand seven crackers , really feisty fish , ranging in size from seven to twelve inches maybe . . . . I fished perhaps a hundred yards up from the second bridge and then called it a day at about two o clock , a fun few hours , even with the river up and a bit coloured , spot on !!!!
Some fish slipped off the barbless hook and had a few long range releases , the annoying breeze was frustrating , and why is it the wind is always a downstream one when your fishing gggrrrrrrrrr!!!!! The river will be back to normal in a couple of days , although I was happy with the sport this morning , it's a cracking beat , back soon , nice start to the weekend !!!!! Happy days !!!!!!

2 trout caught on a mayfly, both returned to the river. Conditions good with plenty of mayfly present. Good stretches of the river that were easily accessible.
