After attempting to tie some fancy flies the day before I resorted to making some simple yellow fan wing mayflies. Started fishing at 11:00 and initially struggled with the wind but was determined to fish dry mayfly. River was clear with reasonable flow (not yet summer low). First and best fish came just above footbridge with the fly cast alongside the Ranunculus and measured around 10". Landed 3 more about the same size and the rest in the 6-8" range. By mid afternoon there was a steady hatch of mayfly which the fish responded too, with the majority of rising fish cast to taking my fly. Great days fishing.

Odd day with a cold wind which might explain the lack of surface activity. Located and hooked a good trout with a ptn right under the bank but after charging upstream and then down stream it threw the hook.

I fished the ripples, the glides, the deep pools, the weir and not a sign of a fish; no tugs at the nymph, not a rise to be seen and not even one dashing away from my boots; not in the cloudy morning or the sunny afternoon.
The beat looks as if it is perfect for brownies, treed almost all along but not too overhung, yet cover in paces for fish to hide. The water was cool, flowing well and slightly coloured, but not so much you couldn't see the bottom in 2 feet of water. The location is isolated and quiet with only the sheep for company - idyllic.
I've had 3 attempts at the Arrow in 3 years on different beats with the same zero result. I think I'll leave it to anglers more skilled than me.
PARKING BEWARE! When parking to the left of the yew tree trunk, beware a large stump, hidden by vegetation that will take you bumper off. Don't go too far forward.

Bright and sunny evening session, fished from 6-8pm. Very few rises so fished pheasant tail nymph. Took 7 trout but lost a few more due to using barbless hooks. Largest around 8 inches the rest averaged 3-6 inches. Enjoyable evening on a very well kept beat.

I did not catch any fish. I tried dry fly and nymphs for about five hours. I did not see any fish or any rises, so it was rather frustrating. The water was quite clear which was a surprise after so much rain and I thought the Arrow was a beautiful river - just the size I like, so I will be back!

This was my first try on this beat for three or four years and I'd forgotten what a wonderful stretch of river Titley is.
Arriving at around 10am there was still quite a push of water coming down the Arrow, carrying its greyish tinge. In the first pool above the bridge a small trout slashed at a klinkhammer. A larger one then took and let go of the goldhead a cast later in roughly the same spot. A few yards upstream came the first of my two fish of the day on nymph. Both were typically beautiful 9 inch Arrow trout: colourful and healthily plump.
There were a few medium sized upwings in the air and one or two sedge but I didn't see a rise all day. The riverbed is carpeted with caddis though. Lifting the stones reveals an enormous number of other invertebrates - a welcome sign of the Arrow's water quality.
By the time I'd reached the weir it was a blazing hot afternoon so I didn't bother trying below the bridge, even though I've had some good fish from that section. After an Easter weekend of high temperatures, it felt to me as though the Arrow was still to fully awaken from the otherwise cold spring. I'm sure things will be different in a week or two's time.
