11:30am Start. Striking too early made for lots of lost strikes. Lost a further two that shook the hook. 3:30pm 9" WBT on #12 Gold Head Ribbed Hare's Ear Nymph in the riffle entering the head of a pool. 4:30pm another 9" WBT on a Winged Adam's #16. All earlier takes were to a #16 Greenwell's Glory before I lost my last one in a tree.

Fished the top half as I fished the lower section last time. Plenty of insect life but not many fish rising. Some up-winged flies, sedge and the odd mayfly. Caught first fish on ptn nice 8 inch wbt. The second fish was the best at about 10 inches and the third was about 6 inches long the last two fish were taken on a black and peacock spider. Missed several others. The fish seemed to prefer taking their food from just below the surface. A more able fisherman might have made double figures.

An unbelievable day on an incredibly beautiful little stream. We lost count of fish caught - action was non stop.
Biggest just over 1 lb and lost a nice one of 2-3lb.

A cold drizzly day but at least the cold East wind had gone.
Fished the bottom half by 1 and stopped for lunch back at the bridge with only 1 6 inch Trout on a Klinkhammer.
Changed the set up for the duo with a size 16 PTN on the point and continued upstream.
The slow water was very low and clear so concentrated on the pool heads and was rewarded with 5 more Trout to 14 inches and 4 nice Grayling 12 to 16 inches.

No fish this evening but there were a few rises. All the access points below the bridge are still fine. I did find that someone had blocked the path down to the river inside the bottom access point with trimmings. I cleared this away so there is now access to the river.

14 small trout to 8 inches, all taken on size 14 March brown spider from mainly pacey water, great sport but this venue is a tough cookie, I would advise that only fit agile anglers attempt this venue. Great day BUT I don't think I will return, I'm knackered!!! Thanks very much WUF.

First time fishing this beat and I must admit it's a cracking stream. Walking down to the start of the beat, I was unsure how the day would go as it was my first outing of the new season. Started fishing at 11am using upstream Baetis nymph, using a cut down 3lb tapered copolymer leader to 5ft and 2 to 2.5ft of fluorocarbon tippet (3lb) which worked a treat as I caught a few WBT and 3 OOS Grayling. A bit later on, moving upstream I then switched to the dry, as there were plenty of LDO's hatching and fish rising. Same leader set up but changed the fluorocarbon tippet to 3lb copolymer and used a cdc foam dun #17.
Good day had 11 WBT and 3 OOS Grayling. I will return!

My first visit to this beat and my first grayling, 16inches of beautiful fish quickly followed by a second of 15 inches. Both to a ghptn. Two trout one of 9 inches and the second of 11 inches both to a gold headed bug and finally a smaller grayling of 11 inches again to a ghptn. I only managed the bottom half up to the bridge and then stopped as the leak in chest waders was making my right foot very cold and uncomfortable. I will return!

Another lovely warm spring day so I decided to give chanstone a go. Really enjoyed this beat with a mixture of fast runs, undercut banks and very deep holes all of which looked likely to hold fish. Got in the river at 11.30am and slowly worked my way back up to the bridge without having to get back out. A few odd risers here and there and managed one 10" trout on a small klink and one more trout and one grayling on a #16 PTN both about 12 inches. Judging by the amount of fish I clumsily spooked I should of maybe caught a lot more, some of them looked to be big old lumps for the size of this river. Will definitely have another go here once I've had a chance to tie up a few more flies to replace the dozen or so I lost in the trees!!
