Overcast conditions throughout the day with a few sunny spells. Fished the Duo all day and took fish on both flies.
February reds and small up wings hatched intermittently all day although few fish rose to them.

13 trout caught but as many missed!

First time on this beat. Bright sunshine and great to be out in this beautiful area. Fished the lower half of the beat with a small goldhead ptn and partridge and hares ear spider on the dropper but to no avail. Decided the ptn not getting down quickly enough so put on a heavier grhe nymph which produced two small trout - 9” and 6”. About 11.30 a hatch of march browns started but only saw one rise from a small fish. Would have tried an emerger if I had not left them in the car.

Very satisfying end to the season. It was an overcast day and the water was low and clear. The Edw is one of my favourite streams and a joy to fish. Lots of creeping about needed to fool these little skittish trout. I spent the time prospecting with small klinkhammers and parachutes and managed 17 fish between 6" and 9" - great sport on light tackle. Thank you WUF.

A great day and the perfect end to the trout season for me. Quite cool in the morning in the shade, but it warmed up and became brighter. A good flow of crystal clear water, the level was low, but fishable. A lovely small stream beat, not as tight as some (which was nice), a really good variety. All fish caught on nymph below a Klinkhammer. Most fish were small, 6-10", with one larger. All returned.

My apologies for not filling in catch details sooner, but the cottage in which we were staying had only very sporadic internet access. I landed two salmon parr and six trout, mostly small, hooking four and losing four bigger ones. They were all caught on a flashback hares ear or an Adams. The most notable feature of the day was a cow paddling down the river towards me.

Six weeks ago I was catching much bigger fish but only 5 over 10", and the rest down towards 6" - all caught on S16 Adams Para. I reflected on how much this beat has changed over the years I have fished it. This year the beat has benefitted from some clearing of bank side trees and some fallen trunks, and it will remain a favourite.

Edw Hergest is a delightful beat we keep going back to and always gives us slightly less gifted dry fly anglers the chance of some sport . It was a shame to see it with only a small trickle of water in places where we had caught fish back in May. In the deeper runs we were able raise a number of brownies and after a few missed splashy takes, managed to land a wbt of around 7 inches on a grey duster para.

Fishing up to the cattle crossing, another 2 wbts around the same size came to the duster para and to para Adams. A very pleasant morning with the prospect of the afternoon on the Edw Cregrina beat.

All fish admired and returned safely

The only downside was the new waders bought for the trip leaking like an onion bag

River very low and crystal clear. Lost a good fish, approximately 1/2lb, on about 4th cast which rose to a klinkhammer. The remaining fish were 7 inches maximumand all to a tungsten headed nymph and caught in deeper water.

After fishing (more like swimming) the Craig-Llyn beat in the morning I was pretty battered and nearly didn’t fish but I had a new 9.5ft 1weight I wanted to try out (which was perfect) so made the effort. This was my second time to this fantastic wild stream the first being at the beginning of the season where I’d grafted hard for 5 fish. Today I’d had 6 within 10 minutes, what a contrast.
There was hardly any fly coming off the water apart from a brief hatch when the sun came out but fishing the duo takes were about 50/50 for dry and dropper fished off the end of a French style leader. size 14 deer hair emerger and 16/18 hare’s ear nymph. There was a wide range of sizes and plenty of fry.
I’m sorry I didn’t count the catch.
