New to wild streams fishing and had a blank day but a great deal was learnt on a lovely stretch of the Monnow. One or two missed takes on a Hares Ear nymph. Switched to dry for a while as there were quite few Olives around but no noticeable rises. Will return to this beat with more knowledge. Thanks for a lovely day.

River too low to fish, schoolboy error booking it but had a good look at river bed, for when there is water.

Water was very clear. Only dry fly fishing, the fly of the day was a small klinkhammer with black body. The 5 largest trouts were about 14 inches or so. I fished from 10am till 5pm. Thank you Wye & Usk Foundation, especially to Allyson.

Despite the rain of the weekend, fishing with dry fly was possible. I fished the beat from 9am-4pm. Fly of the day was a little hairwing sedge size 16. The biggest trout (7) were about 14 inches or so. Thank you Wye & Usk Foundation, specially thanks to Allyson for her help.

River low, only fished the top part of the beat from about 7:45pm to 10pm. Managed to catch two fish on small sedges, fished mostly dry. Had two other takes. There were only a few fish rising. Good session overall.

River was perhaps a little low. There are some really nice deep pools and runs which are surprisingly deep for what appears to be such a small river in certain places. Few fish seen, 3 nice trout all taken deep on bead head nymphs. Casting in places is not easy and the trees have a good dozen of my flies - perhaps I'm just not a very good fisherman. If there was some trimming of the overhead branches and clearing out the side, it would be a much easier fish - however perhaps then it wouldn't be in the wild stream section!

In order to fish upstream it is necessary to reach the downstream limit, by bank, preferably.
The path indicated on the map provided really barely exists and it is very easy to end up on the wrong side of fencing - a few simple arrows would be very helpful to first time visitors who want to get on with the fishing and not worry about how to access it!
Fish were few and far between and very small but lovely water and surroundings and for £10. Overall a happy day.

The river was low, although a little higher than this time last year in the heatwave. Managed to tempt one trout, fin perfect and fighting fit, of around 8 inches on a pheasant tail fished through some faster water. Beautiful, little river and nice pub in Longtown. River banks/access in great condition. Just needed some more water! But it is the height of Summer after all. I will be back for sure. Almost certain I saw a kingfisher as well, which was magical.

After 10hours rain yesterday river was still high and coloured in the morning but fined down by 6pm to make it worth a go. First cast produced a fish but it was tricky and made wading awkward. Fish caught on Adams and sedge (with last cast about 8.30 pm).
