Lovely beat, the river was is great condition, it was a very bright day and I fished in the morning. The beat was easy to find, the map very good and the wading not too difficult. I did manage to cast flies under branches and into likely swims without too much difficulty but I couldn't spot any fish. Embarassingly I did not catch anything at all, although I rose two both on an Adams. I alternated between a dry fly and a beaded GRHE all morning using a 7ft cane rod I tried fishing the dry fly and then fished back in the riffles with a nymph. Maybe I was not stealthy enough to fool the local fish but I enjoyed the time on the river. I didn't see much fly action although I did see a couple of Mayfly, later on (I switched to a Grey Wulf to no avail). Of the fish I rose one was a small wbt( a tiddler)that was far too quick for me, the other a larger wbt probably abut 6 or 7 inches but after I missed him the first time (he rose to the fly but rejected it) he ignored my second efforts and then ran for cover. These were the only fish I saw all morning. I did not see a natural rise but I would love to have had the time to fish later in the day when I guess there was a little more action. I shall certainly come back and fish this wild stream again. Hopefully I will find more success. Dissapointingly I had to cut my day short and travel back home (to London) so I did not fish the Upper beat that I had also booked. Ah well there is always another day. Tight Lines.

Having fished two days on the Usk this week with varying degrees of success this turned out to be a near perfect day. I arrived at the beat around mid-day reflecting that dry flies hadn't been overwhelmingly successful (in terms of numbers of fish) on my 2 previous outings and wondering how I should approach my day. Flies were coming off the water again but this time fish were rising to them, not in great numbers or with abandon, but enough to give away their position. What's more, these were good quality fish for a small stream. I saw none of the usual 5 to 6 inch specimens, these were more like 10 to 12 inches and were present in most of the expected holding areas. With more skill I might have taken a dozen of these beauties but I was well pleased with four. All returned.

Easy access, easy wading on this delightful little stream. Despite being only half a mile long it contains around 10 decent pools giving you plenty of opportunity for a 2 to 3 hour fish.
Managed 6 wbt on Adams and Olive patterns. 4 over 10", best 14". All returned. I was surprised by the number of large trout in this innocent looking stream.
This was a wonderful finale to a 4-day fishing break. So much variety in the available beats. Nymphing the deeper pools of the Usk to delicate presentation on the wild streams. Wonderful!
A big thank you as always WUF.

Again a beautiful day. Directions on the map are extremely helpful. A lovely promising stretch but no luck. It seemed perhaps a little hot.

I fished upstream nymph with gold head PTHEN and PTN but had no success, no fish caught or spotted, maybe to early in the year? Although I did see a few LDO hatching. The weather was seasonal with sunny intervals and scattered showers. The beat was very beautiful and well maintained and I could get a cast away on most pools.

River was full but clear, mainly sunny and at last warm, despite an upstream breeze. Slow but steady hatch all afternoon but not enough to interest any trout that I could see. Perservered with various nymphs and gold heads, but blanked. Must keep trying!!

Managed a couple of hours, an exercise of hope over experience given the conditions. Nothing caught or seen, and no fly life to report. Pretty beat, will return when the weather perks up.
