About 3.5 hours on a wet Sunday afternoon. Pink tag on the point fly, Black Pennell and Partridge and Yellow on droppers. Grayling seemed partial to the Partridge and Yellow, oddly. They usually take pink. Trout unfussy. Sometimes the fishing gods are kind. Everything back bar one for supper.

With chocolate brown coloured fast flowing water after heavy rain the previous day, I was only able to safely fish about 50 metres of the lower section of this beat. Most of the beat has very challenging access, lots of overhanging trees, slippery rocks underfoot, wading out away from the bank is necessary but not safe if you can’t see your feet in 2ft of water. I almost gave up but was glad I didn’t as managed to catch 3 trout late in the afternoon by frequently changing the fly on the same 10metre section of water where I’d seen a couple of rises.
