First time on Greenbank beat. Fascinating, and very different from further upstream. Not easy to find the fish - assuming they were feeding at all. Very few rises except for about 15 minutes about 8pm. But the one I did catch was a nice one of about 1¼lbs, on a nymph.

Got to Craig Llyn but was presented with an unfishable brown push. I swapped to Penpont - different river, different catchment and the Usk looked much better. Started on a nymph duo through the runs but nothing happening at all.
Early afternoon I met another WUF angler coming up stream from the camping ground. He was turning back so I turned too and started back upstream to the house, and with the sun now warming things up, I put on a dry. A fish (which clearly hadn’t read the all staff bulletin) rose more than once in the same spot so I put a small daddy longlegs pattern on its nose for a nice fish which saved the day!

Overcast, rainy spells. River slightly coloured (and getting more so). Today was sub- optimal all round. This was my first visit to this river. Very little fly life - I think I saw one rise all day. The river is quite hard going, very tree-hung, making for a bow and arrow kind of day. Added to all this I fished amazingly badly, and donated quite a few flies to the vegetation. The fish I did manage to catch were small but beautiful and dark.
