Thought I'd give the middle section of the lovely Llynfi Dulas a bash for a couple of hours this afternoon...... got there two ish ...the view is fabulous from the top ...a nice bimble down to the River , running at a nice height but always slightly muddy in colour here .... some lifting of stones revealed loads of caddis and a stone loach!! ......wowser haven't seen one of those in years !!! ... there were bullheads under some large flat stones too... and plenty of invertebrates... in fact amass with them .... Great stuff .
Mayfly on the go from two and large Brook duns ... also olives but trout weren't that keen on rising today.. think I saw three rises over two odd hours !! Managed five to Para dries they really hammer the fly here when they want it ...thought it would have been a bit more lively here but alas pretty quite considering the mass of insect life ... oh well thats fishing for you !!! Still a super couple of hours on x secretive little stream .... getting very overgrown here in fairness..... Real jungle warfare tactics , the six foot, two weight was plenty !! Back home and a bottle of cold Amber nectar me finks !! Another little adventure ..... these wild streams are fab !! Get out there folks, they're at their best now !!! Happy days !!!

River looked perfect when I arrived around 11 with nice colour. Struggled in the morning with nymph, maybe still a bit too much fresh water. Decent olive hatch going on and fish started to rise from 2. Managed another 4 on a soft hackle dry.

Fished very early morning, a challenging beat. Plenty of fly life on the river, but no rises, no sign of any fish all morning, used wet/dry fly, nymph, no bites. Still enjoyed, nice to see a family of otters at the lower end of the beat, maybe that’s why all the fish have gone.

Lovely spot with the Black Mountains as a backdrop. But so little water that there was no flow through any pools, carpets of algae / thick green stuff on the bottom and swarms of pond skaters that would crowd round your stationary fly on the few pools fished. Very little fly life. No rises seen, just a couple of small trout darting past in one pool.

Bottom third contains a few fishy spots and further upstream is not worth the awkward wade. Wading generally quite challenging with sudden dramatic changes in depth. Low water conditions as expected. Large areas of deep water with little or no flow.

A showery afternoon & evening on the lower part of this beat, which appears in reasonable health despite the low water and some algal growth in the slower sections and flourishing himalayan balsam. Fished dry fly only, as regular rises in some pools with best results around dusk. The fish of the day was the fifth trout that freed itself from a barbless Adams just before the net. The other was a salmon parr.

Good day fishing - a beautiful and wildlife-rich beat. Quite a lot of fish rising, many taking mayflies, however they were hard to tempt with dry flies in the big pools where the flow was slow due to the river being low, and they were easily spooked. The couple of fish I did catch were in the faster water at the head of the pools. Thinking about it afterwards I wondered if a mayfly nymph would have been a better bet in the slower water.

A couple of 10" trout on mayfly on a drizzly afternoon. Spasmodic rises, mostly to olives. Many tadpoles in the margins.

Super fishing! Pool after pool of eager trout, and of an excellent average size. I only had time for the first 600 yds, but still bagged fourteen, all on dries.
