Having had a ball at Litton this morning , and into the early part of the afternoon , I tpreturned home had the pooch out for a couple of hour s and decided with the weather as it was to grab an hour or two down at the Pinsley Brook , covering the WUF beat and another short private stretch . . . . .

Well it was a fun couple of hours , from half three till half five , lots of insect activity , and even a couple of splashy excitable rises , good to see , so on with a tiny PTN. Nymph for starters in two areas I know have scored before , and which is quite deep water , with the Pinsley running at a lovely height now . . . . . . .

One fish , about eight inches , and boy did he go , really fought double his size , cracking little fish , quickly admired and popped back in . The water quality here is staggering , it's just a shame the whole length of the Brook isn't given a full Brook overhaul , as it's been left unloved I feel for many years , a fun couple of hours , and nice to get one in the net from here , spot on . . . . . Home for a glass of amber nectar me thinks !!!!!!

Brook running fast but clear. No sign of any fish and none seen rising throughout the day. Hatches of small fly from about 1.00pm through the afternoon. Mostly used small pheasant tail nymphs but not a bite. It’s similarity to a chalk stream is misleading . The stream is badly obstructed throughout the length of the beat and has a great deal of farming rubbish and debris in the water - this is not a managed beat! For much of the beat the banks are closely fenced with barbed wire on both sides and there are stock gates across the brook. All of this makes fishing from the bank tricky, the wading must create disturbance in a brook this size and because of the fencing there are limited places to get out.

Just a quick session on the likely trouty places on the Pinsley , headed down there at half five before the sun poked its head out !!! Was a lovely fresh morning and although severely like a jungle on two beats of the Pinsley , was still really pleasant being down there , and fished from near six till just gone eight . . . .

I did notice a couple of rises in the ever narrowing channel of the Brook , so rigged up the two weight six foot rod with a tiny Parachute Adams , and after some careful manouvering and very unconventional casting . . . . Did have a little cracker on , always go ballistic here in the narrow channel but great fun , about nine inches maybe . . .

Moving along to other areas that have produced before , I managed another little brownie , splashy little take , ditto in size great condition , quickly admired then a splashy goodbye and he was away !!!!

A fun couple of hours , still a reasonable flow considering , think the downpour other night helped , although could have done with a few more hours rain , great fun and a nice start to the day before breakfast !!!!!!!!!!!

Was a real gamble heading down to this miniature haven in this heat . . . . Strewth bright sun , not a wisp of a breeze , must be mad !!!!!!

Bowled up at one , and fished till half three , initially tackled up with an eighteen Adams and having now got a really good knowledge on the WUF beat , and a private stretch , I targeted these locations I knew were successful before . . . .

First little fish was from the top beat , nice little fish , took the parachute Adams with confidence , after I watched the water for a while , a rise was very very close in to the marginal vegetation , and there's plenty of that here !!!!!!! Quickly admired , little fish of perhaps six inches , and away , back into his pool . . . .

Not much at the usual haunts on the Pinsley , but wow the bank side vegetation has gone nuts !!!! And it's only June . . . My next fish , again took the Adams , on a private stretch , close under some overhanging Alder . . . . The rises from him were fairly aggressive ,probably terrestrial insects from the trees, but he was downstream of me . I cast short of him , leaving a bit of a snake in the two weight line , watching as it got close to where he had been risisng , and wallop !!!!! Nice fish on , lovely markings , possibly ten inches , again quickly admired then back in . Was always a bit of pot luck fishing dries in this weather , but in those shadowy corners , there were two fish risisng , and two too the net which was great , fun sport , and a great few days on the Wild Stream beats , shall give some of them a bash next week , work does get in the way hey !!!!!!

Well had a rare day off with Mrs A. Nice not to be at work , up at five , pooch out for a while , then down to the Pinsley Brook , weather was pleasant for six in the morning , overcast , sun just poking through , so fished only from six till eight ish !!!!

Did initially try a small rusty klinkhammer on the water , had one brave splashy rise to it but didn't contact . . . . Mmmmm , bit early me thinks , so changed for a tiny PTN , and had a beautifully marked six inch brownie , still feels good on a six foot two weight , gereat fun !!!!!

The second fish , again caught on the PTN on a private stretch , a few indications that later on would have been good , as some insect activity showing even this early in the morning . . . .

A breeze started to pick up just as I called it a day , and sun shoepwing through , was lovely to be out and about at this miniature haven , two little small brownies caught and released , good fun , and a nice start to the day . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Well, braved the WUF beat of the Pinsley Brook , and a private stretch , strewth jungle tactics were required !!!!!! Turned up at two , there was a fair amount of activity , but in the usual hard to get too places , by small feisty brownies , splashy rises . . . .

With the overcast conditions , there appeared to be quite a few trout visible , was nice to see . I attempted a rusty klinkhammer in a couple of the spots you can get too !!!!!!! And bingo had a superb little fish on , a perfect brownie in miniature , quickly admired then released .

It was a case of looking at the areas were I've had fish from before , and moving very very cautiously , only had the one brownie from the WUF beat , this one is very tricky , and the fish was hard earned to say the least !!!!

I did work along the private stretch , had one beauty , which was a cracker for this sized Brook , possibly ten inches , maybe more . . . .

The other two fish were taken on an eighteen f fly , good confident takes , and enjoyable three hours and lovely to see such vast insect life around this miniature haven , will try here again one more time in a week or so , and then I think the vegetation will just make it pretty dam impossible !!!!

Three well earned brownies caught and released , the usual stamp for two of the fish , at about seven inches , and the one cracker , great fun as always . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Bright and hot day. Fished a dry fly for a several hours but no sign of any fish. Middle section of beat is marked as ‘no fishing’ presumably because it’s completely overgrown. Much of the rest is very overgrown.

Well with the impending thundery weather , headed down early to the Pinsley Brook , again covering the WUF beat and a private stretch . . . .
Initially , thinking the trout from yesterday's bonanza would be still keen on a large mayfly pattern , and they were , except that the smaller more inexperienced fish were nailing them , like a great white shark hitting a seal !!!!!! More often than not no contact was made , great fun though . I'm sure they will hone their skills over the next two weeks to a fine art . . . . . .

I decided having taken two little six inch scrapers to down size thing s, and opted for a grey wulff in size fourteen , seemed to do the trick , hammering it still and staying on !!! As is the case , was a bit early at nine for any significant mayfly activity. And they only started putting in an appearance about elevenish . . .

The sport was again fun , but really had to work for spotting rises and getting into a position to try and alight a dry in to the right place . . . . Easier said than done here !!!! It's a mini Belize in Herefordshire , and some mega accurate casting is needed to avoid the elusive tree trout , which got me a couple of times .

Was a fun three hours , five gorgeous little brownies released , wiser and hoping they'll get a little bigger , will give Pinsley another crack next week , great fun , happy days . . . . . . .

Beat:Pinsley Brook

Well fished the WUF Pinsley beat and a private stretch between two and half four , and what a couple of hours of madness !!!!!
Weather was muggy overcast , and had been drizzling for a few hours in the morning , was then still and calm in the afternoon , perfect weather for Danica to be on the go . . . . . And when I bowled up it was a real festival to say the least .
Single large size ten mayfly , had a ball in the few sumptuous pools I managed to get too , the stretch on the private beat has some more approachable pools , but only just , it's still casting under the tree canopy job !!!!!
Takes were fast and aggressive by the excitable small trout , I missed many , and the average stamp was about five or six inches , but I did have two crackers , and for a small Brook , specimens and great fun on the two weight rod , must have been eleven inches , maybe a tad more . . . .
Had three brownies from the WUF stretch , and eight from the private stretch , Great fun after a hectic weeks work , few days off so shall head down there again in a day or two , weather permitting . . . . . . . . .
Two extremely fun hours , and eleven brownies caught and released , it's nice to see so much insect life in and around the little Brook . . . . . . . .
Back very soon , was planning on a trip up to the Claerwen Reservoir tomorrow , but may just change the plan , when sport is this good , and just fifteen minutes drive away it's a tricky choice ha ha ha !!!!!!!!

Decided to head to the Pinsley Brook , two beats , and also the Stretford beat , a private section , but wild and overgrown similar to the Pinsley !!!
No noticeable insect life at twelve , just the odd upwing but nothing substantial , so fished a tiny tungsten nymph and fished all the likely looking trouty places . . . . . Had two small shots , only perhaps four or five inches , but still put up a nice little scrap on a six foot two weight !!!!! Later on on the Stretford Brook , had one long range release , which felt like a good one , but they always do when they come off hey !!!!!!!!!!!!
Lots of backside vegetation really on the go now , this will resemble Belize next month , its a double edged sword really , as it does bring in plenty of fly life so not all bad news .
Water still tinged , should be clearing up by Wednesday or Thursday , will head down to this fun little beats some evening next week , sit and wait to see what happens before wetting a line with a dry .
A pleasant few hours , only interrupted by the RAF playing games above , in there fighters !!! Perhaps a bit of pre IS thinning out training . . . . . Well done lads !!!,
Nice to have a varied couple of weeks , better weather inbound , so fly life should greatly improve . Shall look forward to these cracking little beats again very soon . . . . . . .
