Fine day between the showers. Sheltered from wind. No takes on nymph. March brown and occasional danica hatching. 8 fish not taken to net - "distance release" by shaking the hook - but one that did was surprising for this little upland stream. 1wbt ~13"

Arrived about 3pm to find the Escley bereft of water and the little there was just muddy stagnant soup from overnight rain. Gave it an hour, no sign of any fish so called it a day.

Some very small fish attacked the fly from below and knocked it out of the way. A very hot and sweaty day for no result but good fun all the same. Fishing with small Klinkhammer.

1 x 6 inch trout. 2 fish risen, one missed and one caught. Trying this upper beat today was definitely a mistake - I came to a chain of stagnant pools connected by barely a trickle of water and the bottom covered with slime. Plenty of trout seen, but they saw me first. I think I will leave it now until some rain falls in this valley. Back at the Bridge Inn I had a drink on the terrace and watched a collection of quite nice trout in the pool there. But those are household pets and not to be cast to.

No fish taken today. I fished from about 9 to 1pm. Perhaps too early in the day. A few olives started to hatch but no rises seen. This beat is an ideal one for Tenkara. I was fishing march brown spider.
