We fished a nymphs for a few hours. Very bright sunshine. Healthy flow of water but not a single pull, and no rises seen. We heard that Dulas Brook and nearby River Dore almost dried up at end of last year and fish had to be rescued. Could this be the reason for apparent lack of fish? No darting trout seen where the Dulas flows through Ewyas Harald, something we always saw in the time we've been coming down to fish the area> Any comments/ideas?

A lovely little wild stream but sadly very low water levels due to the warm weather conditions and no rain. Only tiny sections of streamy water and then mainly deep sluggish pools with no flow so impossible for nymphing as they could hear the drop of the fly immediately and no rises. Only fished for half the day. It would be delightful in different conditions and a little bit of cutting back on the beat would make a huge difference to access and casting.
Many thanks. Gilly Bate

Nil return. River seemed in good condition with plenty of small fry. Had sight of a number of better trout but were not interested in the presentation. At first sight the river seemed small but a lot of pools some deep on the course had to take to the bank on a few occasions. Fished from 11.00 to 16.00.

Five fish caught, all on a nymph suspended under a Klinkhammer. Six fish also lost. Two really nice fish at 8 to 10 inches, especially on a 6 foot 2 weight rod. Access quite difficult into sections due to barbed wire fencing. Walk to the very bottom of the beat and there is a wooden stile where much easier to gain access.

Fished in the evening. Just a few rises. Still some mayfly about. Hooked and lost a couple but my hamfisted and stealth free approach was unsuited to this enjoyable but challenging beat.

11 to hand in the short time I was there, water very low with no flow so not ideal. 4 largest between 10-12 inches all the rest between 8-10, all took olive dun at the heads of the very shallow pools. Only one or two rises in the couple of hours I was there, plenty of fly on the water but with the sun beating down it put them down.

A beautiful beat. Not a fish seen. Waded full length from 1400 to 1730. water clear as gin. Bottom mix of silt and shale and very wadeable for juniors. 6 or more major trees fallen across swim. Overhead canopy forces side casting throughout but water made up of multiple riffles, glides and holding pools and it was a wondrous afternoon requiring much bending and exiting and re entering of the river.

Hour or two on the Dulas water, levels desperately low in fact the lowest I have seen on the Monnow tribs. They fell for size 22 beadhead in the deepest pools lost a few. The Dulas is terribly overgrown with huge amounts of debris from start to finish not seen it look like this in the 4 years I have fished the wild streams.
