Quite surprised to see favourable reviews of this beat as I found it hard going. A very low tree canopy on the lower half of the beat; I was using a 6'6" rod and anything longer would have been tricky. It's not so much that the wading is difficult - the riverbed is reasonable going underfoot. The problem is all the obstacles in the water, so I found myself getting out and walking the banks at several points, simply unable to make my way upstream by wading.
In fact I gave up before I reached the un-coppiced stretch of the beat. Having vaulted over a barbed wire fence, I found the river blocked opposite Maesporth Farm by two gate-type flood barriers that were impassable. I couldn't face the tricky wade back downstream and a further vaulting of the fence but I managed to climb the vertical 5-foot bank and walk to the road just outside Maesporth and then back down the lane to my car.
I spent over three hours on the beat (not including the walk back) and fished for about half an hour. I rose a fish early on to a Para Adams but saw nothing after that. I know this is wild stream fishing and I don't expect mown banksides but sometimes the WUF beats are more suitable for those seeking to re-enact their favourite jungle war films or training for infantry selection!

Only fished bottom half. Lots of fish to 7" but most about half that! Small sedges...

First time on this stream, its got a lovely mix of runs, glides, deep pools, tricky wading in places but worth it. Good flow in the river with a slight brown tinge, so fished para adams and olives all day to see what would happen. Landed 7, max. of 8", but missed many as well, all small methinks. Left at 5.30 so perhaps the bigger occupants were leaving it to later. Excellent day, will definitely be back!!

The final day of a four day trip and fishing a familiar beat I very much enjoy. Again the fishing started slow and only picked up as the day warmed. Rain in hills had slightly coloured the water and there was a good flow and a steady hatch including sporadic May. When the sun showed itself it was very warm and the fish really started to move. A great end to a fantastic trip. Thank you WUF.

Three large fish (2 @ 14" and 1 @ 16") caught on the bottom part of the beat under heavy cover where casting from a distance was tricky so I fished slow and carefully. The rest of the fish, incuded one more larger fish (14") and six smaller (up to 8"), were caught on the top half of the beat which is much more open. All fish were tempted up to the same Adams Parachute which miraculously lasted me the whole day - that's never happened before!
There was quite a lot of hatch during the day although very little rising fish, and the water was low and clear. I started at 10am and walked off the top of the beat at 6pm. Great day.

Was in the area so decided to do some recon and fish where I always say I would but never do.
Gave this little trib a look. Clearly knowing this is completely not the right time of year for it. Surprising more water than expected. As the description says its canopy fishing until the hut, which is is a far as I made it today before running out of time. Did a fair bit of just walking along as well. Spoked plenty of tiddlers and even managed two perfect little trout, a push to say 4 inches. Beyond the hut looks even better, saving that for next time. Bags of potential here and will be back after a nice flush in September. As expected from this perfect little stream.
