A plesant few hours low and clear, but plenty of fly.
Black knat were on the wing from mid morning, but late morning the up wings started to hatch
and the fish were looking up.
Bumped a few off on the dry ( a cdc and elk) and manaaged to stay attached to one.
Not easy fishing but well worth the effort.

What a lovely stretch of the river Usk. weather was overcast with a few sunny spells later in the afternoon. Fishing upstream of the bridge there were lots of fish rising in the afternoon but not taking dries off the surface. Also told the same by the previous days angler who I chatted to. No fish caught and no takes.
We both found access to the river difficult and limited down both banks, especially the right bank upriver of the bridge. Some areas described as easy wading gravel were in fact more difficult with large rocks and boulders but we did find some good areas to wade. Not really able to fish from the banks as high sided and overgrown.
Disappointing that we didn't catch but will definately return soon and use different technique next time.
Overall still a lovely stretch of river that clearly holds fish.

Fantastic view of spawning barbel above and below the road bridge. Low clear water and circa 20 fish up to 15lbs.
What a spectacle to watch.

Nice to be back on an old favourite today !!! I must say though she's in need of a top up ....Really low, and some very dubious bright coloured algae up where the chicken farm dust track leads down to the river ....With the concern, I've emailed WUF just for some water testing to take place .... On stone lifting, very few nymphs seen, and no caddis whatsoever!!!
Anyway, rant over, the fishing wasnt bad ....Dry fly action was reasonable .. A small hatch of Large dark olives and medium olives were on the go by one ... Some feisty smashes to my dry fly, with only two half decent fish, the other four were wee chaps of perhaps only five of six inches !!!
The pools have altered considerably since last season, with some totally gone !!! Always a shame that, go round the meander, expecting a cracking pool , only for it to have vanished!!! C'est la Vie.....
Otherwise, it was a fun four hours on this secretive stream. Let's hope we get a bit of decent rain soooooooooooooon !!! On another one tommoz, then some client days to look forward too ....

a few afternoon hours, upstream of town bridge. over cast with threat of rain but thankfully only the ducks and fish got wet. water level was quite low having not had real rain in the area for a month. plenty of opportunistic risers at about 15:00 but no repeat feeders apart from the 2 I had. two small browns. Both to different flies; #18 olive CDC emerger and #16 Griffiths gnat. Plenty of BWO in the air along with large darks but those on the water weren't taken
