Have been fishing this beat for the last 4 years and have never drawn a blank before. Tried everything without a single bite, very strange. Conditions good, river had a good colour and levels reducing.

14mm Halibut/Meat
Only 4nr accessible swims to fish on the entire stretch which is a poor return for £27.50 when there were 3nr people booked in. I will not use this beat again.

Sometimes it all comes together. The river was up and a perfect colour; it rose 6 inches during the day. There were no canoes (4) and the fish were feeding. I was expecting to be inundated with Chub as that seemed to be the trend elsewhere, but only one today. All the Barbel were pristine, all below 7lb with the smallest at 3lb. All scrapped wonderfully and all returned quickly.

First visit to this beat and it's a cracker. Fished the upper section and there were about 5 very decent swims that had been well strimmed (thank you to the owner). Had 5 barbel - a 5, a 6, a 7, an 8 and a 9.5 (new PB). Plus a 4lb chub. All on either meat or pellet behind the feeder. Superb.

Overnight rain had flushed a lot of colour into the river and perhaps lowered the temperature. Three of us fished with just one from the handful producing some 20 chub, most around the 1lb mark with the best about 3lb all caught on float fished corn and bread. The other swims were pretty much dead with no amount of bait or method producing anything. Remember...this is a particularly short stretch of water with 4 fishable swims. You get a lot more for your money on other beats. Perhaps that is why the owner tempts anglers by describing it as 'the honey pot' on this part of the river. We found it a disappointment, perhaps others will fare better with improved conditions. If immersing yourself in green is your thing, the opposite trees are spectacular when the sun catches them.
