Gin clear river and very tough conditions with bright sun. The fish were not active, and the water was still very cold. Managed to scratch a couple out on nymphs. Winter floods have changed some of the beat.

Beautiful sunny day, around 16c by midday. Usk town gauge at 0.5, water clear and fast, nice wading height mostly.
My wife caught the first trout, around 1.5lbs, euro nymphing below the island between the bridges, caught on a blowtorch nymph.
At about 12 some ldo's started to trickle off and by 12.30 we started to see some rises. I put on a parachute olive dun and fished the flats just below the footbridge where I hooked a beautiful fish I had seen rising, unfortunately threw the fly after a short fight. 2 minutes later I hooked another and landed. My first of the season and on a dry!

Fished two different sections which are usually very prolific, really struggled to get a bite , surprised to see the river at almost summer levels and regretted not bringing the float rods , on the other hand it was a beautiful day and a joy to just sit and basque in the sunshine .
Not the haul we were anticipating but a fish each saved us both from a blank

Water considerably warmer than it was earlier in the week, although a lot less fly life with a stiff upstream wind. Fished nymphs under an indicator majority of the day with some good success. All 5 fish caught on a Howard Croston pattern. Took the dry fly rod for a walk but no rising fish seen.
