First visit of the season to Llangoed, unfortunately marked by another lost salmon, which came to a pearly tosh tube soon after starting in coloured water. One run and I was treated to quite an aerobatic display before we parted company. The blood pressure was still high when shortly after I had another take but only ended up returning a very fat Shad. They are up quite early this year.
Uneventful after that start, and the river continued to colour up through the afternoon leading to an early finish. Next Timeā€¦..

Nothing caught. There were very few safe access points to the lower half of the beat due to the river depth, high banks and fallen trees. The upper section was more inviting and gave more opportunity to fish but wading was still precarious.

Lovely days fishing and we missed the rain.
Fish were rising sporadically at times during the day and all were caught on dry sedges. stalking individual moving fish.
3 from Rhosgoch and one from Blaenmelidwr, one noteable at around 1.8lb. Thanks to AAA for a well kept venue with good maps, directions & info.
My companion had 3, again on dries.
All fish safely returned

I fished with a friend. The owner was very helpful in showing us where to fish and where wading was difficult. It is an interesting beat and will take more than one visit to appreciate its full potential. The water was just below 2 feet on the gauge on this beat so higher as a result of some heavy overnight rain which made wading more difficult if you do not know the river. No rain during the day. Fished with the fly, size 8

Stayed at the conveniently located Griffin Inn in Llyswen which met all our need and provided a pleasant base.
