An eventful afternoon. There was a salmon in the pool - a grilse I think - getting bored waiting for more water. It showed 5 or 6 times in the first hour I was there. I tried working a float down the faster water with maggots, but no good. So I put on some luncheon meat and ledger tackle. After about 15 minutes a strong bite and a call on my mobile arrived at the same time. I took the call, and the fish broke my 5lb line. Time for something stronger. Not long afterwards, using 8lb line, I caught a very nice 5lb chub, with a suspicious second hook and small length of thinner line in its enormous mouth too. Greedy devil! Ten minutes later I caught a barbel of 5½lb. Then things went quiet. Later I caught a smaller chub in a swim further down. Great fun.

A lovely afternoon spent on the downstream end of the fishery. Grayling rising to probably something very small but they also rose to a variety of my offerings. Griffith gnat the most preferred. Ended up with 9 grayling to 16 inches.
