The final outing of the long weekend took us to the River Cammarch beat. Having stayed at the Trout Inn in Beulah it provided a very handy couple of hours fishing before the long trek home. At this point I have to say that Dave and Heather looked after us superbly at the Trout Inn with some excellent food and ale, a warm welcome and comfortable rooms.

Starting at the main bridge in Beulah and working upstream, the Cammarch here is an interesting stream with a variety of runs and pools to give the dry fly angler a great sense of optimism. Access to the water is good here, and a small wbt was taken on a grey duster para on one of the slower runs.

Moving up to where the small stream joins, there is a beautiful run which saw 2 small fish snap at the fly but the reactions of the angler too slow to connect. A return to the run on the was back produced another take, but the reactions still way too slow to bother the fish.

If you are looking for a couple of hours of stream fishing without mountaineering or difficult wading then this section of the Cammarch is highly recommended, as is having a meal and a pint in the adjacent Trout Inn.

Having fished Aberbwtran in the morning and first time in the area I looked in on this beat. Only fished for an hour and covered the first few pools. Fishing duo on my Tenkara rod I had 1 on the Sedge dry and 3 on a bead nymph all around 8 inches. Definitely worth another look.

The river was running low, and clear with very little fly life in the morning.
Started on nymphs and picked up a few fish, as the day went on a few fly started to come off and by mid afternoon switched to a dry and the fish seemed happy to rise, there were a few Yellow Sallys amongst a mixed hatch.
Its a long beat and I only fish the lower section but there are some lovely pools and in better conditions I imagine it could fish well.

With significant rainfall to bring up the levels, a very picturesque and interesting beat, but for our visit no fish seen

I fished the lower section in the morning , no sign of fish or insects..saw goosanders and a mink. Gave up around midday , too early in the season I guess.

Since this was the first time on this beat and it being fairly local to me I was prepared for it to be a recce. I fished the lower half of the beat and didn't complete the whole of it. No fly life to speak of so I prospected with nymphs. Hard going with no sign of fish at all until around 2 pm when the only take of the day occurred..a really powerful 14" trout that took a size 16 tungsten bead PTN and put up a serious fight. Interesting beat with plenty of deep pools easy wading but flowing over gravel and silt with little cover for fish or the angler. I look forward to another go when flies are hatching and fish rising.
