Good days fishing with plenty of rising fish and the fish wide spread throughout the beat. The trout were caught on a weighted nymph and the grayling on dry fly.

My first time on this beat and had great fun. I decided to attack it with my tenkara rod and a gold headed nymph and was not disappointed. Hooked into a beautiful 8" out of season brownie within the first few casts at the bottom of the beat. I then had two grayling of a similar size from a pool round the corner. It then went quiet for the next hour or so and i was beginning to wonder if I had already seen my last fish of the day. I then partially fell in and got water in my waders which was not great. I soon forgot about this misfortune when I landed a 12" brownie from the next pool up. A 14" fish then slammed into the nymph on the next cast into the same small pool and put up an awesome scrap on the tenkara rod.
Some grayling were rising in the next pool up so I switching to a small pink F-fly and managed to tempt one small lady which was nice. Sadly this spooked the rest of the shoal so the dry was swapped for the nymph. I lost a hefty grayling and landed another three trout between 8-10" before darkness set in. Sadly I only managed to cover about 3/4 of the beat despite fishing for nearly 5 hours. I guess I spent too much time covering each pool. Went home cold but satisfied and will definitely fish this beat again.

Water was a healthy level after the recent rains, but you could see where some of the flash flood damage had been done. Fished it with a 9ft rod nymphing, although my best advice is to use a 7ft rod because of how often I got caught in trees all day, losing some good leader and flies in the process (sigh). Despite this though, the beat has wonderful access, a few decent pools and some gentle gravelly runs. The temperature was warm and trout were still rising... (it's been a bizarre year weather wise lets be honest). Anyway, I took four 8 inch brownies on the nymph, one possibly 4 inch grayling and one 4 inch something (could have been a parr?). Only one trout was out of a deep pool due to my poor skill as an angler, I probably should have been getting down deeper haha.
All in all this beat is good but not spectacular, some nice little trout and later in the year I imagine grayling.
Are there bigger fish in here? I certainly think there could be, I shall be checking the catch returns to find out!

A cool day with rain on and off all day. The river was still low, not affected by the rain yet. Landed 5 grayling at 8" to 13" from various places, all on a small pink shrimp, they do not appear to be in shoals yet. Plus 1 trout, again on the shrimp. And a (pleasant) surprise - a feisty 9" perch, all bold stripes and red fins, again on the shrimp - a very healthy fish.

Decided to give the Llynfi a bash from my regular Arrow and Lugg beats . . . . Was ten when I bowled up , a little overcast , 18 degrees and a nice breeze , things looked good .
Tackled up with my usual six foot two weight outfit , and a tiny parachute black gnat , almost immediately having several hits by small but very pretty trout parr , which is promising for this river , as two years ago was the pollution incident so happy days , and plenty of small fry and bullheads under stones . . . . .
Had my first "decent "trout , possible ten inches in the head of a deep pool , great spirited fight and quickly returned . This happened several times , with good rises , prospecting areas working my way up the river . Was a nice change from the confines of the Arrow beats , easy peasy , and wide and able to get a proper cast under the over hanging alders , great fun . Four of the brownies came to the dry , and two on a single small gold head PTN .
The deep pool half way up the beat , had a nice surprise , a lunker of a grayling took my nymph , steady bend in the six foot rod , beautiful specimen , possibly fifteen inches , and strong as an ox , quickly admired , then released , spot on !!!!!!
Had one more grayling again in the nymph nearly at the top of the beat , again in a deep pool , hit the nymph hard , about ten inches , and super condition . . . .
A really fun four hours , six brownies and two grayling , from this recovering cracking river , shall head back again very soon , oh and it would have been rude not to call in to the Honey Cafe and sample one of the delicious cakes and a cuppa, so obviously I did the decent thing and gave it a go . . . . . Again !!!!!! Great morning , and a nice chill out at the cafe . . Happy days !!!!!!!!

Early morning trip but not early enough I don't think - a few rises in first half an hour or so, after that all quiet. Other were salmon parr; water obviously very low but there were fish in faster water. All on dries, para Adams and larger brown klink. Missed a few, including takes from a couple of reasonable fish that I did see rising in still water (not counting the many splashes at the fly from ambitious parr); worth going at first light if possible at the moment. Enjoyed trying somewhere new as always, thanks to WUF.

7 x trout 6-9 inches, 2 x grayling 6-10 inches, Parachute Adams and Parachute Greenwells. Plus countless numbers of smaller parr, trout, salmon and grayling, pecking away at the fly. A heron and a large family of goosanders seemed to be helping themselves. No larger fish seen today.
