The river benefited from the recent rain and was a bit livelier, with water quality improved though a bit murky.
3 nice trout, 8-10 in all on a 2 on a Klink & 1 on Sedge, all rising fish. No luck in the deeper pools with nymphs, it needs a bit more water coming down.

Overcast day, very low water, which was not as fresh looking as normal, it was a bit sludgy brown. A lovely day though. With the lack of water there were few opportunities to actually fish, but this beat does feature some 'fishy' looking spots. Especially the large 'pool' where the Escley brook joins at the top of the beat.
Three beautiful WBT. One of a good'ish size for a small stream, about 12". One caught on nymph, the others on the dry.

Fished the Monnow mid afternoon, very low flow and still. Weather still bright and warm. Quite a few fish rising but very wary, one cast and they disappeared. Perhaps I need some practise! Water quality good but thick filamentous algae on river bed.

6 x trout 10-14 inches, Monnow Gosling. The hottest day yet and the river very low. However, some explosive rises from the deeper pools to a mayfly pattern. I managed to miss quite e few. Driving there without going through Wales added much time to the trip.

Good days fishing The wind was a major problem but I did manage to catch 3 trout and lost one fish just before netting. the fish were taking mayflies but I could not get them to rise to the mayflies I had. dry fly proved to be the most successful.
