Tough day, water very low, plenty of hatching flies, but very few rises, one small brown trout caught at the bottom of deep pool on GRHE, but a beautiful place to spend a day!

River pretty low and little fly life. Quite a cold start but temperature rose to 14c during the day. No rain and wind that had plagued this 4 day trip. 13 wbt caught and returned. All on dries, Para Adams the most productive pattern today. Very aggressive takes in the faster moving water and plenty of 7"-9" trout, best a 12" beauty, fin perfect taken in a clear, fast moving pool. Thrilling. Great way to end a trip to my happy place, thanks as always WUF.

Low water but easy wading, lovely stretch. Saw one rise, covered it and caught a small trout. Nothing to nymph.

Bright, warm sunny day. The water level was very low. Saw a few fish but nothing was rising. Caught a nice 10" WBT on a gold head nymph. Need some rain!

Parked up at the usual spot near the Bridge ... before I progress with the report I met Bill the farmer on his quad after my session this morning ! He stated that I was just far enough back from the bridge to allow a big tractor and trailer or a lorry to get round ... park carefully here folks !! Not on any of thr gravelled pull in section .. in the rough green stuff... otherwise you may cause a problem .... that said I did have a good chat with Bill ... ended on a high note ... always a relief !!!

Anyway , the fishing... a low river and early season , tricky again!!!! Only had the three diddy fellows this morning on an eighteen flashback nymph from deep holes ... all ditto in size tbh and about seven inches or so !!! Clear as gin the water ... shame there's not another foot ... hope we get some for next month to enjoy some early morning dry fly sport !!!

No real obstacles here ... a joy to wade ... easy as so low ....hope it picks up and we get a good helping of rain.... kingfisher was busy this morning and lambs very vocal... was fantastic being in the Edw Valley again...... my old Arrow beat on Monday I think !!! Off home for an amber nectar , a fun four hours mooch ..........

A couple of hrs putting a dry fly about, just to get an idea of where we are with the season ? River down as expected, a few changes to the beat after the storms, no hatch 12-14:00, one rise, you know the one that is behind you in the run you’ve just fished ? :) . Quite blowy today, kept the trees happy with a couple of fly’s. Some rain please, back in a couple of weeks methinks ? A blank on the Edw ? There’s a first ! Still, just being on this stretch is reward enough .

Well I was undecided whether to fish Craig Goch reservoir or swing a left off the A44 this morning !! I sort of followed my nose and plumbed for the Edw at Hergest !! Eeekkkkkkkk ! Bit coloured and a big change from when I was last here two weeks ago!

I thought dries are out of the question this morning !,. And with it only reading eight degrees in my truck when I parked up, I opted for two nymphs, New Zealand style and a small orange sight Bob!! Seemed to work well this morning , even colouring up good takes on the nymphs to be honest !! I think the fresh cold water gets them feisty too !!

Only managed five to the net , ranging in Size from six to ten inches! Lost about five or six in the faster pokey water! Two were really crackers !! Doooohhhh never mind!! For next season I guess now !!

A lovely end to a cracking season on the small streams. The Edw , Arrow and Lugg have fished very well I must say this year ! Albeit a tricky August . Had my lunch by the Bridge........ a kingfisher darted up and away! A fitting end to my River Season ! I raised my cup of coffee to the River , wished her well for the Winter and bimbled back home . . . . Slowly I might add to conserve fuel !!! Lol !! Happy days....... Up in the Elan Valley next week as there's still another two weeks of the season up there, lovely jubbley !!!!

2nd time I've fished this beat and it's as interesting as the first time!! Very short of water and fish were very wary. Caught 2 WBT below the waterfall and one above all on grey dun PA. I look forward to next spring here when there is more water!

Only fished for one hour or so. Lots of cattle in the river in the lower part because of damaged fencing. Two dogs where chasing them arround so no chance for some peaceful fishing.

Mooched off to the rather lovely Edw valley again this morning , opting for the Hergest beat . . .

Dank and cool when I turned up at eight , and although low , looked fishable and trouty looking from the Bridge parking area. . . . .

Fished dry fly again this morning , catching on Parachute Greenwells and a tiny tan Klinkhammer . Great sport when you could cast into the fast water coming into a pool . Most of the morning stealthy wading was required , hence the four hours to get up to the weir !!! Lovely sport today , thirteen brownies to the net , four good ones of between ten and twelve inches , the rest around six to eight ; also two salmon parr hammered my dry too!!! All the fish were beautifully marked Edw brownies, tubby from Summer feeding!!!!

Although it was low , sport was good and if your prepared to kneel a lot and stealthy slow wading you'll get your rewards here !! That said a couple more days rain wouldn't go a miss to be honest ! In fact a week would be good.

A fun four hours this morning , got out by the weir boulders bang on midday, a slow bimble back to my truck . . . A very pleasant morning , back To The Ponderosa and some garden chores before feet and and a well earned weekend off !!! Nice . . . .
