5 trout between 11 inches and 15 inches. 5 of about 5 inches. All but one taken on gold head nymph fished New Zealand style. Few fish rising. River would benefit from clearance of fallen trees towards upper end of beat to open up two pools which are currently unfishable. Lovely days fishing with kingfishers, dippers and otter prints!

Weather cold, wet and windy. Fished from 11am to 2pm before giving up. Only saw 4 flies and no rising fish at all. Only saw one fish which I disturbed when wading. Did much better on previous trip. Overhanging trees need a trim.

It felt like I was fishing in a time warp, it is May and not March? I only fished the morning before the rain arrived. The temperature was ten degrees and the fish knew it. One rise in four hours and I brought him to the fly but he just bounced on it in disgust.

Overcast, damp day. Perhaps too early in the season?
