What can I say, beautiful weather, beautiful part of the World and beautiful River Wye. Having said all that I didn't get much in the way of Fishing done. It's completely my fault, I have experience on Still-Waters and my local Brook here in the Cotswolds but I didn't expect such a Huge River. I was totally out of my comfort zone and literally my depth! My only excuse is there was an awfully large amount of water in there, some of it know doubt running-off my sodden fields at home at home! Met and spoke to "Don", the owner, on the previous day and he was most kind, helpful and pleasant. The outcome was, nothing caught but a fantastic experience gained. If anybody finds two boxes of Flies/Lures on a rock would they please leave them in the Hotel opposite the River, (I think it's called "The Courtfield Hotel"), and I'll pick them up, next time when I return, this time with more preparation and with my Fellow Rod. Many thanks to everybody concerned.

Arrived early with river at 0.9 on the gauge (6in above optimal) but reasonably clear. A few mayfly (E.Danica) hatched throughout the day but trout unimpressed. Rock and Chine wadeable (for the tall and mad).Had six hours of very pleasant exercise with the 15 footer but no sign of samo salar.

River was clear and 1ft 8" only dropping 1" during the day. MS had a 14lb slightly coloured hen fish from Ty-Mawr on a spinner. Another 2 were lost; Ty-mawr and tail of Rock pool. Fish seen in Rock and Gravel catch. Half a dozen trout and 2 shad on salmon flies.

Very quiet for me I`m afraid, saw nothing and touched nothing on pretty much perfect water.

Five trout 9-12" came to the net. Two larger fish 'self-released', one of these felt like a monster but that's the thrill of fishing with a 6' rod. Most came up to a small black Klinkhammer, the others to a weighted nymph.

Managed to grab an evening post work and encouraged to see a heavy fish slosh in the stream as I arrived with river level and clarity excellent. Thus inevitably -apart from an occasional suicidal trout - no action at all until dark when another big fish lunged at the surface and gave me a final derisory sendoff, no doubt mocking my efforts!
Still -worth the effort and anticipation

A pleasant but challenging day. River running fairly high and coloured but fishable. Working hard with deep nymphs all day, managed 2 WBT both around 9ins and 2 Grayling of similar size. A nice beat with very easy wading.

One brown trout, about 35cm caught at the middle planks. One brown trout 25 cm, On the flat middle of the stream. One trout taken on the flat middle of the stream, a 35cm brown trout. All fish released.

Easy to find but parking on the side of the road in a small village so maybe don your thermals before arriving. Another chilly morning, 11C with a weak but cold wind. Had a fishing meltdown in the first section of the beat. Seemed to hook everything but a fish. Didn't see anything move for a couple of hours so turned on my heel and left it for another day.
Chatting with a fishing mate in the evening who rates the Cilieni suggested I fish through the first half of the beat very quickly and concentrate on the top half which has been extensively coppiced and holds a good head of trout. Should have spoken to him the night before!

After a disasterous morning on the Cilieni met up with a pal for a couple of hours on the Honddu. Chilly, grey afternoon. Plenty of water but this trib is characterised by riffles and shallow broken water with precious few fish holding pools. Easy to wade but very tight casting.
Very little hatching but did manage to winkle out 1 wbt of around 9" on an Adams. I suspect the Honddu fishes better when the weather warms up a bit, but then there is the possibility of less water which would be a significant trade off.
