Fished Maddox with meat for a couple of hours early evening. Had two barbel (7 & 6lb) and a chub (2.5lb). Weather was overcast with rain at times. The banks are quite overgrown but the fishing is good where you can get into the water!

A lovely day, and my first on a river since a major operation. River very low and clear but one missed take and one 9" trout, safely returned, made it a day to be grateful for. I saw two fish, each rose once, and showed no further interest. I caught on a caddis, a bit like a leaded elongated Black and Peacock
Sorry, I forgot to do a return.
The stretch below the ford is very securely protected by barbed wire and thick undergrowth so I waded down the river and then gave it a while to recover. Probably not very conducive to success.

Arrived mid-morning and after walking the beat and spotting both chub and barbel in several areas spent an enjoyable few hours stalking the fish with meat, catching some nice chub to about four pounds and being frustrated by a nice barbel that refused my offerings even when trundled right down on to her nose!

Moved downstream in the afternoon and the barbel were very visible as they flashed on the gravel, so fed them some hemp and 6mm pellets, made a cup of coffee and enjoyed a fantastic three hours taking 13 barbel to about 8lb and a couple of stray chub. Small (6-8mm) pellets on the hair, small (size 14) hooks and long hook links (4-6 foot) did the trick as usual in the gin clear water.

Canoe traffic very light and the sun even shined all day long! Thanks W&U!

Sun and cloud, not too much wind and the water very low. Almost the only insects seen, until the arrival of the late afternoon and evening sedges, were two Yellow Mays so, unsurprisingly, hardly any rising fish - so on the face of it the prospects didn't look too good! However, in spite of all this, I still rose fish all day to a couple of HE emerger patterns which also accounted for anything that rose as well. Had nothing take the nymphs when adopting NZ tactics. From about 5 p.m. there was a reasonable evening rise which continued until I could no longer see my fly. Remarkably, over the course of the day, I had 35 grayling from about 9 to 15" and five trout to 12" - all returned. The best two grayling were saved almost to the last, when I also dropped two other nice fish because I really couldn't see my fly - they were barely hooked and it was a case of long distance release....so, time for home! A cracking day.

Back on the Wye and Usk beats for second trip of the season.
Fished with my son today and had a very enjoyable day in warm sunshine. The river was low and clear and fish were more difficult to temp during the day than on my previous trip but the fish were feeding hard for the last hour before dusk and we finished with 30 Barbel and 21 Chub between us.

This was my fourth day of the season so far and my tally is now 110 Barbel 53 Chub. What a fantastic river the Wye is, thank you W&U for making it possible.

The start of the day 11am, very low cloud and over cast! River very low and no fly activity. 25mtrs from the start of the beat had several takes which I missed, then a fine wbt 30cm 3/4lb and a great fight in the fast glide. Missed several more takes fishing NZ style with a GHE. Then out came the sun which brought on the LDOs and sedges. Change of tactics but still to no avail, these fish I'm sure are just sucking and leaving. It's now 14-30 I'm back to NZ style and another small wbt. Packed up at 15-30, a lovely day in a fantastic location.
Thanks to the W&U team.
