Had a nice day on the Courtfield beat with lots of sun but the river was high and fast and the only catch was two eels.
One was about 3lb though, he had tried to tack my half Mackerel dead bait on my pike rod, but spat it out just before landing.
Will have another go when the river is lower. I always catch Barbel when fishing on the Wye. I knew they were there, just could not get them to feed that day.

It was a beautiful morning, very misty & still with a light frost. The river had come up 2-3 inches overnight. A very slow start and with only 1 barbel of 10lb 3oz caught within the first 3 hours we decided to move further up to the top of Vanstone. This proved as unfruitful as the morning with no further barbel showing. However lots of quality dace fell to maggot. Not the fishing quantity of the previous day, but yet again the stunning surroundings and wildlife made up for this. All barbel caught in our 2 days were of pristine condition & super hard fighters....great sport!! Can't wait to come back. Once again, well done WUF!

Complete blank. River very brown. Seemed quite high, but it was my first time on this river so not sure what are "optimum" conditions.

Back again, this time the weather was abit more favourable! We fished from 7am to 4pm in the meadows stretch before the woods for 8 Barbel to 9lb 14oz. Bait was fishmeal boilies with 4/5oz leads to hold bottom. We had to cast at least once every 10 minutes at least because of the weed but the fish didnt mind!! WILL BE BACK ASAP!!!

I had a good days fishing and managed to catch some small grayling on dry fly. I also lost a grayling of well over a pound at the net. It took a weighted nymph. Also caught and returned 1 out of season brown trout. Would it be possible to install some styles/crossing places at both ends of the field to aid getting over the barbed wire?

The river very high (0.8 at EA Hay guage) and steaming through but fishable in the slacks and pools. Spent the morning piking and had a nice low double then switched to chub in the afternoon and to my surprise caught a rare upper Wye barbel a nudge under 9 pounds. Four nice chub followed to end a lovely day in the autumn sunshine made even better by the complete absence of any boats....Bliss!
