7 x trout 6-11 inches, mainly on mayfly patterns - Monnow Gosling. A slow start, but they started rising to mayfly mid-afternoon. I had forgotten how fond I was of this pretty little stream, although I think we are going to have to trim a rather overgrown top end to this beat.

Area:Lugg & Arrow
Beat:The Arrow, Arrow Mill Fishery
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Three WBT, one to a weighted pheasant tail nymph and the other two to emergers. Lots of fish and insect life including plenty of Mayflies, which the fish appeared to be ignoring completely. I lost count of the number of fish that either rose to refuse a fly or that I missed. I lost a box of dry flies somewhere on the beat and wasted quite a lot of time searching for them to no avail. If they are handed in I would be very grateful.

Area:Forest of Dean
Beat:The Blackpool Brook
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Exhausting afternoon on this little brook. The only way to get near the little ------- was stealth. So I crept and crawled and slunk up the beat, keeping as low as possible. I'll pay for it in the morning when I try to stand up.
Lovely little brook, my bit of heaven for about 4 hours. It was a bit dark under the trees after the sunshine of late but magical none the less. Scored 4 little trout, 3 about 8" the other slightly smaller.
My little 5 foot 2 weight was about right but accuracy is still imperative with trees overhanging everywhere.
For the sake of the next angler on the beat I did a bit of judicious pruning on the way back downstream at the end of the day, so he/she has a bit more rod swinging room.

Area:Monnow
Beat:The Olchon
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
The last time I fished the Olchon the line was freezing in the rings and I managed to snap my rod at the butt prompting a bankside repair involving a Swiss army knife, superglue and some backing from my reel. It was a bit warmer this time but I still struggled. It seemed the fish could see you coming before you'd even spotted the pool they lived in! I'd managed 3 trout by the time I reached the top of the beat at lunchtime.

Beat:The River Dore, Turnastone
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
I fished on a windy and overcast afternoon simply to peruse the beat - something I've been meaning to do for a while now. What a lovely little stretch for few hours fishing. Pool after pool after pool full of chunky little trout, 9 of which made it to my net and at least as many fell off! As well as the trout I also got myself a nice new no2 Mepps and a long length of line. There were some flattened paths in the undergrowth where someone had climbed over the fence to access a few of the pools - no doubt the owner of the spinner!
