Beat:R9 The Cammarch Hotel water

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Blank, except for half a dozen out of season trout, parr etc. Slightly desperate attempt to fish rising coloured water after overnight rain with a new weather front coming in - grayling seemed to have gone on holiday.

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Fishing 9th &12th November 2009. Difficult conditions with the river having been recently over the banks and was still quite high and racing through. Mud everywhere. 16 Barbel between us up to 9 and a half pounds and several good Chub. All taken on pellets. Think we didn't do too bad in the circumstances but we'll come back earlier in the season next time.

Beat:Grayling fishing on the Irfon, Cefnllysgwynne B28

Fishing:All Species (in season)

19 x grayling 10"- 12". Out with the trotting rod on a raw, foggy day, water high but clear. Good fun, although only small fish seemed to be about for some reason and they wanted the bait dragging right on the bottom. A hatch of large dark olives late afternoon produced a small flurry of surface activity and I watched a gentleman from Newcastle Emlyn take one on the dry fly from the Glaslyn pool in the last hour.

Beat:On coarse fishing at White House & Luggsbridge

Fishing:All Species (in season)

3 rods fishing : Muddy day on Whitehouse on Tuesday 3rd November, river dropping slowly. I had 4 barbel spaced evenly throughout the day - not really getting the feeling they were getting their heads down(!) Maybe the 'floodwater' was chilly? The others struggled even more ....

Wednesday 4th November we went to lovely Luggsbridge where a smattering of chub were caught, and one barbel lost in some tree roots. A trifle wet at times, but lovely at others. J. saw an otter, which fished it's way along the stretch - he even got a couple of photos.

Thursday 5th November, back to Whitehouse for a day of sunshine (S. spotted sitting out in his T-shirt for a while!) and showers. Some spectacular rainbows (The meteorological, not the piscatorial kind). I got three very nice barbel (8lb 14oz, 8lb 5oz, and what looked like a mid 7), before lunch. I had 3 chub and 2 eels (on meat - the barbel and chub were all on pellets) in the afternoon and a smaller (5lb) barbel at dusk. The others got 3 barbel and a couple of chub between them.

Will be back in February, before the season runs out!

Beat:Mortimers Cross (River Lugg)

Fishing:All Species (in season)

River somewhat high and coloured so crossing points not useable - clearing late in the day. Both caught half a dozen 6-9 inch fish, mostly grayling. I hooked a very big fish in the first straight broken water section of the river but he broke my tippet (3lb), my friend caught a lovely 30+ cm grayling just downstream from this as we were about to call it a day.

A lovely day, scenery & all. Thanks for the advice.

Beat:On Grayling fishing at Lyepole (Lugg)

Fishing:All Species (in season)

My first foray into river flyfishing (fished lots of reservoirs).....so it was never going to be easy. But I did manage one small grayling and a small brown, both on gold headed nymphs. I shall be back for more though - what a cracking place, I never saw anyone else all day!!

Hopefully on my return visit, I shall be a little more clued up on the concepts of river fly fishing, and hopefully, connect with some of the larger grayling that inhibit this stretch of river.

Beat:Middle Hill Court (R Wye)

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Arrived at fishery to a heavy downpour lasting till mid morning. River low and clear to start, then a bit of colour later on. Had a good start in the morning with 5 barbel up until dinner time. An even better session in the afternoon, a bit of roving producing the fish. Chris ended up with 4 barbel (one low double) on his first ever barbel session, me taking 5 barbel to 9lb and losing two very big fish, one from the Rope(pool)and another at the top of the beat. My uncle Brian took 6 barbel to 9lb. My uncle Phil, again on his first barbel session, had 3 barbel, also had a good tustle with a big pike, though the pike won twice to a very annoyed uncle Phil.

Thanks to the rain we had a fantastic session. Thanks again to the Wye and Usk and also Adam Fisher for his great advice.

Beat:Upper Winforton & The Pikes (River Wye)

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Blank. Unfortunately the long-trotting strategy didn't work out, and apart from a modest chub which bounced off before netting, all I could contact were minnows. I went off to Sportfish round the corner for some retail therapy.

Beat:Whitney Court (River Wye)

Fishing:All Species (in season)

A lovely day before the storm hit on Sunday. Some chub and one lovely barbel an hour before dusk from the tail of an island. Might have had more, but children had a Halloween party to go to. Such sacrifice is the lot of parenthood.

Beat:On Grayling fishing at Mortimers Cross

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Brilliant days fishing. Between the two of us we lost count of the small 4-5 inch grayling and trout we caught. One brownie caught at the bottom of the beat was about a pound and a half, plus 3 grayling towards the two pound mark from deep pools at top end of beat. All fish caught on heavy nymphs, no fish were taken. Will be back again soon.
