Haven't ever tried Chanstone Court beat , so gave it a go this morning . Cool start , six degrees , overcast and still , nice weather to be out , bimbled down passed the bridge , to the side of the oil seed rape field , and strewth talk about bad access , very few places to get in , and out !!!!!!!

The Abbey Dore beat is much more user friendly to be honest . I'm agile but this was a crazy beat . As lots of tight barbed wire every were , bit of a nightmare , anyway after the winge , onto the fishing !!

Nothing showing on top , still a tad early , so single tungsten size 18 olive nymph , took a while before any action , then wallop , confident take , and boy did he go !!! About ten inches , cracking condition , quickly released , good start . . . . . . . .

No more tackers for a while , then another deep pool , head of it , another good take , fish of about twelve inches , great colouration , and a nice run around on the two weight rod ! Slipped back in , happy days . . . . A pleasant few hours , a bit frustrating with the access , surely a few styles can be placed here and there for getting in and out of the stream ???? I guess we're spoilt , as there's plenty of streams all round herefordshire and the borders , so we can afford to be picky , ha ha ha !!!!

Will give this one another go from my usual Arrow , Lugg and Pinsley beats , it's still very pleasant , although I think Abbey Dore pips it hands down , nice chilled out three hours , two lovely Dore brownies caught and released . Another day off tomorrow, where too , mmmmmm I wonder !!!!!!! May be Bugeilyn or Talybont for a change ! After all variety is the spice of life !

See it was JA from Leominster who beat me to Pontithel, will recognise the truck in future! Anyway, over to Golden Valley and Chanstone Court on the Dore. River slightly higher but still a lot of leaves and debris. I went upstream from the bridge, this is now pretty heavily overgrown, and the deepest pools difficult to get round. Found it hard going, eventually landing 3 trout and just one 8" grayling, on dries or nymphs. Again could not find the grayling on this river, despite trying everywhere I could get some casts off. Ah well....

Seemed hard to find fish; a bit more water might be good, ended up with four OOS trout at 6-10". No sign of grayling.

2 trout on small gnat
Hot day, a few fish rising, but less than when I visited last month. Also less room now that the vegetation has further grown, so 8’ rod feels too long.

Found the upper part ( above the bridge) of the beat difficult to access. River gates and overgrown fences.
Bottom half clearer although needed some climbing to get over a large oak tree in the river.
Otherwise plenty of fly life including hundreds of damsels and dragonflies.
6 WBT on parachute Adams
