Just tried for an hour this evening - water still coloured enough to make wading pretty treacherous, but I guess just about viable for fishing. I had a nice 11" fish from the Escley/Monnow junction pool, the kingfisher went past me and up the Escley, and I decided that was about as good as it was going to get today!

Ideal conditions, cool, and slight colour. The water had evidently fallen back from a real torrent recently and a lot of silt.
All this is just an excuse for not landing anything though a few small fish about & rising.

Enjoyable afternoon on a nice stretch of river. Water level was low but still plenty of fish moving around and managed to convince one with a brown sedge.

8 x trout 9-14 inches, Duck's Dun Baetis. Mostly 10 inch fish. A dull day, 5 to 11 degrees, with an increasing chilly wind. Nothing much hatching or rising during the morning, although I was slightly surprised to come across a solitary turkey brown. Olives did begin to hatch and some fish reacted to them after lunch.

Brief olive hatch in afternoon. Water fishable but fairly low and clear. 2 small trout rising to unidentified bugs caught on parachute adams. Good trout (10In) caught in fast run below bridge with sedge.

A nice afternoon session in the warm sunshine after setting up camp at Tan house farm.
Looked a bit better now after recent flush through but of course very low again .Not much moving on top but a few oncers here and there to give the game away .
A couple of uppper Monnow lovelies came to hand and a few more bounced off and some others moving in the real tight inaccessable stuff so happy with that to round the season off here .
Been a tough one for sure but seems the fish have just about held out . Hardly any flow seem to coming in from the Escley but upper beat water pushing in to the junction pool nicely .
Spent fair bit of time relishing the fine weather and admiring the start of the autumnal colours on the black mountains .!
It's a beautiful place here for sure.

Eventually got to the river via diversions around Abergavenny - roads closed etc, hope it was not too serious. Monnow as low as I have seen it, and very slimy. Landed 5 at 7" - 10", on either a small GRHE or para midge. The para attracted interest everywhere from small parr - if they all survive it will mean many fish!!
