The river was clearing during the morning. I lost three trout before lunch, caught four in the afternoon. One 7 inches, two 8 inches and a ten inch fish, all on a dry sedge. Not easy, but great fun. Stayed the night before and the night afterwards at the Caravan club site at Pandy. Excellent site on the bank of the Honddu.
Saw dippers, kingfishers, and for the first time ever, an otter. What a lovely river. My thanks to the Foundation for making this beat available.

River conditions seemed little affected by recent rains: level up only slightly and a hint of colour. The upper part of the beat is mainly broken water with a few pools. The fish taken were confident risers to Tups and Kites Imperial on the middle/lower part.

I was in the area so tried the Honddu for the first time.
After sheltering under a tree during a thunderstorm for the first half an hour I started around 1pm.
The river was running very low and under a dense tree canopy I found it quite dark and difficult to read the water. Managed 3 trout between 6 and 10 inches from the faster runs on small weighted nymphs.

The other angler was my friend O M and he will make separate return. Really disappointing. Looked very promising. Loads of fly life BUT saw not a single rise and caught not a single fish!!
Maybe lots of reasons of course - Were we too early in the day? Fished from about 9.30a.m. Tried all sorts - so after a few hours we gave up and drove home.

Nice sunny day for the first outing, but with a cold breeze. Good flow in the clear river, also a steady hatch of ldo's from about 12 to 3.00pm, although no sign of any rising trout. Tempted 3 all on GRHE nymph, 2 at 10" and 1 at 12" - lean but fit. Pleased with this from what can be a tough stream at times.

Hot, sunny, low flow and crystal clear water which combined to make the fish very nervous. I saw a few fish, two rejected my offerings and swam off, others were just spooked by their own shadows. So a blank. However the dippers and a frog made for excellent entertainment.
Two items of note: there is a barbed wire fence across the river just above the bridge. It is underwater so beware when the river has a better flow. There is a live electric fence across the river further upstream, it is easy to wriggle under it but it is definitely attached to a power supply.
