A really meeeeeeh river at the mo !!! Fished it pretty quickly, ten till half twelve, as the waters so skinny ..
Rain needed big time here, to make fishing fun again....
I managed six wee chaps on the dries, in the places I knew they'd be.... lots of the beat now just a quick wade up steam, splashing in the ever so shallow brook !!!!!
It was just a lazy , lifeless river to be honest folks ....
Tight, precise dry fly placement needed, to get a response !!! It'll perk up again, once we've had a few days decent rain ....
Bullocks in the river up by the falls....Doing what they do best wen stood in cold water !!!! ...Which interestingly, was temperature dipped, reading 13 degrees !!!! ...... Cow urine isn't ideal for the health of the river ..Never mind !!!!
Plenty of grey squirrels on the go, and they're already hammering the hazelnuts !!! I Will have to see about some vermin control on this patch .....
Always a fun session here, in the Edw Valley, but alas, my rain dance hasn't been successful yet !!!! Roll on some decent H2o !!!! A lovely few hours though, as always.........

Great to be back on the Hergest beat although running low. All caught on deer hair/cdc dry fly, they didn't seem interested in the same pattern but elk hair.
I lost more than I caught and missed more than I lost,These small Edw trout were to quick for me today, great 3 1/2 hr session

A plesant few hours low and clear, but plenty of fly.
Black knat were on the wing from mid morning, but late morning the up wings started to hatch
and the fish were looking up.
Bumped a few off on the dry ( a cdc and elk) and manaaged to stay attached to one.
Not easy fishing but well worth the effort.

Wowser, the old Edw is very low !!!A Tricky three hours today. Fished between half ten and half one. Missing the really strong worst of this dam annoying Easterley wind !!
Twas hard going for presentation today !! Well, that and a clear, low river. I'll target some of the other streams that hold water better, at the back end of the week....
Still plenty of pools fishable, with olives and sedge on the go from elevenish ... No risers seen, just tight casts in to likely spots!!! Nothing big on the dries today....Fish between seven and nine inches ...still great fun tbh !!! Ohhhh also had a salmon parr too !!! Feisty chap, nailed my dry .....
Hoping the moorland fires in the Elan Valley are under control by Thursday... They've been burning since saturday !!! Firr crews locally have been at it full slog !!! I have a client up there tommoz. Well, Nantymoch or one of the Trisant lakes will do very nicely instead I'm guessing !!!!.... choices choices ....
Anyway, a lovely few hours here , very much in need of rain, but, on stone turning, masses of cased caddis and lots of bullheads too.... lovely to see. I recall seeing a few stone loach as well here, last season ...Dippers and kingfishers on the go, life's bloody rosey in the Edw valley !!!! Happy days ......

On the water at 10 am, beautiful sunny day, water gin clear, didn’t hold out much hope a mass of fly activity but not one fish seen never mind a rise, a really difficult beat when the water is so clear, lots of promising looking lies but no joy

Wow, she was hard going today!!! An old favourite and pretty local to me .... Temperature dipped stream, reading 13 degrees ... Twas only really the pools that I targeted with tiny dries....
Tough fishing ... in the Elan outflow for a couple of days this week that'll be good, usually some decent fish futher down its short journey before it meets the Wye. Dont forget the Claerwen river is fun too folks... not for the faint hearted, its mountain goat stuff, but bursting with small pretty brownies.... great fun too !!!
Anyway, dry fly tactics as always... and to be honest its all you can use, average depth must be eight inches, if that ... cold though, do thats a bonus !!!

Managed five, all from pool heads .. lovely savage takes too ..... Another two were on and off, a very brief contact..

I fished from eleven till half two ...A chilled but I suppose frustrating session... The Edw seems gloomy and lifeless when she's so low ... oh well, Afon Elan, Claerwen and mountain llyns later this week ....ohhhhhhh and rain next week.... Hallelujah!!!!!!
