Thought I'd get a session in on the Edw, before tonight's weather warning, which pinged on my phone this morning, for heavy rain ... hopefully for quite a while too !!
When I parked up at half eleven the Edw was pretty low .... in desperate need of a good flush through too, in places that yucky dead algae in the quite nearly still pools .... It needs a dam good load of fresh water !!! Tis getting really jungley half way up, in need of Some TLC too, this beat along with Cregrina.... Not sure when this was last clipped and tidied up ???? I did a bit , but it really needs a winter session on it !!!
Anyway , wowser a fabulous session, amongst a tally of eleven to my net , sizes ranging from eight to I'd say fifteen inches maybe ... two of the fush were belters... both on the dry, sent barmy in the low water too....as always presenting a well placed dry fly!!!... well, I don't fish anything else from spring right through to September!!! Seems to work for me !!!!....
The one fish gave me a real run around on the six foot , two weight rig, lovely stuff, well rested, then he was away ..... spot on !! Some lovely rises to my dry this afternoon, that saud a good few olives and black sedge about.. Finished up by the Hergest Falls at half three, a fantastic sporting session on an old favourite..... ohhhh and walking back... there is that old "duck weeded" up pond in the woods, I watched a grass snake work it way across ....Real beauty too ....Did keep my eyes peeled re: crayfish, but on stone turning saw only two bullheads and one stone loach ..... Lovely to see these little fish ...... Will be back here once we've had a decent drop of rain !!!

Fished dry fly to very spasmodic risers & speculatoverly. Caught mostly in deeper pools, not large fish, though better did self-release (“other were salmon parr”), all safely returned.

Dropping to summer level now. Just a couple of hours late afternoon, as rain arrived not long after I did. Very little surface activity. A few rises to a prospected dry, though nothing stuck. Cattle in river.

Having fished most of this beat yesterday my expectations for today were modest but the river had other ideas. Despite the warmth of the day not many bugs were coming off, so I l searched the deeper runs and chutes with nymphs, not as pretty as dries but effective nonetheless. I caught steadily all the way up river, about twenty fish in all, maybe more, I wasn’t counting. One fish from an easily walked-past little chute produced the week’s highlight, a flawless trout of 1lb 6oz I first took in the amber water for a big chub or stray barbel. Any fish after that were pure bonus. A great day to cap a great week.

I fished up from Hergest Bridge today. The river was in good condition, good floor and clear when not cow-affected. I caught pretty steadily through the day with one fish of over a pound early on. This was a good day which would have been great but for two very good fish lost late on. Not much bug activity despite nice weather. Some fish on a small olive dry but most on nymphs.

Odd weather this morning when I parked up at half eleven by the bridge ..... a cold breeze and only reading 12 degrees on my trucks dash !!!
The first few pools were very very quiet ..... in fact deadly !!! It did perk up , but most strange, and in fact very little insect life till later in the afternoon ....I should of perhaps tried later on !! I noticed a car parked at the Cregrina beat .....
Eventually started getting hits to my dry fly offerings.....ahhhhhhhh at last !! A couple of nice chunky fish in a tally of eight today ..... another two didn't make it, and ever so kindly released themselves !!!! Sizes between eight snd eleven inches ..... Great takes to my dry fly offerings in fairness ......
The herd of cows are now loose in the field, with a bull !!! Keep your wits about you folks .... they cross the river where that old maroon swing gate is .... so have free access to both sides !!!! Stay vigilant!!!!!!
Not a bad few hours, possibly an otter lower down at the start of the beat ...... as I say it did pick up and had some great sport at the top, with that pocket water before the waterfalls ..... fantastic stuff!!!
Right, onwards and upwards, going to try a little trib High up on the Wye catchment, see if there's any brownies in there...... then there's a cool bottle of Katy cider waiting for me when I get home !!! Lush !!

River unsurprisingly higher than I have seen it before, which made parts inaccessibility due to high banks and deep water. However, a few dry days might sort that out.
