Water very low. No fish seen or caught.

In terms of access, it's easier to walk across the cemetery and through the gate than to walk down the overgrown path next to it.

First visit to this beat so wasn’t sure what to expect. Water seemed low and very clear. Hooked and lost 2 small trout and spooked a few more. Lots of Dippers seen.

Lovely location, but saw only four fish in the whole day. Little insect life, and no fish rising. Nothing caught.

This is a challenging beat - although not as steep, I would liken it to the Clettwr beat with some deep pools running over bedrock. I fished for 6 hours and although I rose a few, I only got one to hand. Water was very low and clear. I saw lots of fish, but they saw me too and stalking the pools was very difficult! There was no significant hatch and I needed to match the pale, watery flies buzzing over the surface which the fish were coming up for - I found a CDC merger pattern most most effective. The location is stunning, it is truly a beautiful valley from Pen-y-Fan down to Brecon.

A beautiful afternoon for a scramble up the stream but sadly I did not contact any fish - just spooked a few.

This is a cumulative report based on 3 x 30 minute lunch time visits last week. 3 fish, 11, 14 and 15 inch. The Tarrell holds some large trout by wild stream standards, but they are incredibly wary. Best method recently has been to fish with a French leader and a single 3mm jig nymph to get down into the deeper holes. A lot of the deeper pools hold more fish than initially meets the eye, so would recommend spending 5 minutes (or more) simply watching for fish before you even think about casting or wading.
