Very hot and river low, fished afternoon in bright sunshine. Not the greatest combination! However fish were rising in the Bronllys Castle area, though I only fished upstream from the footbridge. Two takes to a dry fly, both missed, plus a few rises too difficult to cast to.

Hard going here now,low water and very overgrown with lots of trees blocking the stream. Bow and arrow casting a small nymph with Tenkara rod into the heads of the pools. Some surprisingly large trout in there,I lost a couple where I couldn’t get them under control in the tight confines. Saw several lots of discarded spinning gear in the trees at the bottom end.

Had a quick scamper up here in the evening after checking in at the campsite & thought to start from the footbridge and go upstream. Been a good while since my last visit & now find sadly its mostly a long dark very socked in tunnel mostly up there, severely overshaded and very difficult to progress more than a few yards once in the water. Where you could actually see the water it looked lovely , pushing through nicely .
No mayfly on the go at all and nothing else either for that matter.
Walked a fair way up and same story sadly so called it quits and went and grabbed a cold beer!

1500-1800hrs. Cloudy, overcast, occasional shower, occasional sunshine. Water temp around 16°C. A few updates to the beat instructions would be useful. Gate is now locked with a bike padlock so can't park inside. Wasn't really sure of the beat boundaries so fished from the cement bridge upstream which may have been wrong. What Three Words should be used across Fishing Passport to identify exact start and end of beats, access points, parking etc. Some lovely little pools and lots of water in the river. Vegetation on banks and tree canopy both very thick making access and casting challenging for a rookie fly fisherman. I'm sure a more experienced angler would have caught. No rises observed. Very few mayfly seen landing. Tried various patterns of daddy longlegs and other dries. Tried some streamers. Eventually settled on foam bodied mayfly which I managed to flick upstream into pools allow to drift nicely downstream of me and then retrieve back. No luck, but that's most likely due to me, not the river. Stream very overgrown so wading the whole way in depths from ankle to waist leaving the river when obstacles dictated. Waders would have been better than shorts as the bank is heavily armed with stinging nettles all the way. Very pretty spot. A little stewardship and some better directions would make a world of difference.

First time out this season and still a bit cold with river level still quite high. Fished the bottom end back to the junction pool between 11 and 2. Duo with all on the nymph.
