The Kington Beat comprises 1½ miles of double bank fishing on the upper Arrow, just upstream of Kington. Meandering through farmland, this stretch of the river is ideal for those looking for wild brown trout in a small upland stream. Wading is relatively easy over a gravel and silt riverbed. Please be aware that the lower half of this beat (from Hergest Bridge to the confluence with the Gladestry Brook) is also available to anglers from the Kington Angling Club. However, the top half is for exclusive use to Wild Stream Permit Holders and Fishing Passport day tickets.

Ideally fished with a 6½-7½ft, 2 to 4wt rod.

There was an outbreak of crayfish plague in the lower Irfon on the Wye catchment in July 2024 resulting in the deaths of the many of the native white-clawed crayfish. This beat contains a healthy population of native crayfish therefore, visiting anglers MUST ensure against cross contamination by approved check/dry/disinfection procedures, and importantly waders, nets and tackle should be sprayed with Virkon disinfectant before and after fishing.
