At just under ¾ mile of left bank fishing loacted between Ross on Wye and Monmouth, Courtfield Fishery has been a jewel on the Wye for some time. Favoured by anglers from near and far, this is a diverse and interesting fishery with good heads of all species at the right time of year. The biggest pike from the Wye in recent years was caught from the water works (near the top of the beat), and huge shoals of barbel and chub spawn above the island at the lower end. As the season goes on these fish spread out and in winter this beat fishable when others aren’t. Numerous double figure barbel are caught each autumn, and this is likely due to the deeper water and protection from predators.

Although the Home Fishery and Courtfield share the same water (they are opposite each other), don’t expect the same bankside access. Courtfield is made up of numerous beautiful old salmon cribs, and the run to the island near the bottom limit takes the float majestically from this bank. The bottle neck in-front of the wooden bank-side lodge is a magnet for all species, and a pair of waders will get you right in the action here, especially as it is unfished from the opposite bank. With access to fishing now available upstream of the water works, there are numerous interesting spots here to explore too, especially in the fast water at the upper limit.

Canoe traffic can be heavy in summer months at certain times of the day but this can be said of almost all of the middle and lower Wye beats.

Half price evening tickets can be purchased between 16th June and 30th September and after 1pm on the day of fishing. Fishing is allowed from 5pm.
