We cannot stress enough the importance of making quick and accurate returns of salmon catches, even if nothing has been caught. Recording catch data is one (perhaps the best, certainly the most cost effective) way of determining the success of our river restoration works. Although affected by short term variations in weather and water conditions, the longer term data set will build an accurate picture of our salmon runs. Catch returns can be made quickly via our online form for both Passport and non-Passport waters. Most of our reporting is from the Wye. Where a salmon has come from another river we will state accordingly.

FISHING PASSPORT NOTICE

Wye and Usk salmon fishing on Passport-participating beats will reopen on Saturday 31st July.

Thankfully, water temperatures have dropped in the past week by 7.3 degrees, and are now at safe levels for salmon angling in both rivers. While there is rain about, neither river has risen so catching conditions will remain difficult in the low water, except for the very lowest beats.

The forecast is for more unsettled weather for a while which will hopefully put some much-needed water into our rivers and raise the levels.

Once again, our apologies to all anglers whose fishing has been disrupted by the closure of Passport fishing. We hope you agree that these are necessary measures to protect our precious fish stocks and that the welfare of the salmon takes precedence.

Thank you.
