Caught some junior grayling around 8" to 10" in the morning followed by 4 larger ones early afternoon 18" best fish. Also a few oos brown trout all in good condition. A cold day and started to rain at 1pm so called it a day. Lovely looking upper wye beat at this time of year. Lots of leaves to contend with. Fished trotted maggott.

A blank day despite flogging the river from 11 00 to 17 30. Saw only 4 rises all day and no fly life. The river was running at a good pace but was clear.
There was a viscious, and very cold, northerly wind blowing down the river and a hard frost on the ground, I think the " ladies" were not in the mood to feed.
Plenty of" leaf fish" to provide me with false takes. Only fish seen was a large Salmon which jumped in the Edw pool.

Nice quiet spot with easy parking and access however not worth fishing until the level drops a couple of feet. I was told in a local tackle shop, and also thought myself, that the upper Wye drops off quite quickly after a flood, anyway two days since any rain and the water level didnt drop an inch from dawn till dusk. Two small trout, wouldnt even think about wading, maybe try white water rafting next time!

Water high & still very brown today but as there were wadable & open bank sections, we did fish it pretty thoroughly to no avail. Did find a sheltered bend with a shoal of grayling which were fun on dry flies-fish to 1 1/4 lbs.

River low and clear. Fished hard with no sign of Salmon all day. Good sport with Grayling; caught over 10 in 2hrs on a single dry fly I found in the boot of my car. Hey, why bother with other thousand flies left home if this one works?!
