Two very nice brown trout and one small grayling fishing with spiders with a gold head hares ear on the point. One trout and grayling from the top of the bottom part of the beat. The best trout from the top of the beat. Be careful negotiating the top end of the beat the track is very undulating rocky and slippery especially for a 72 year old.

A nice beat, easily fishable, some parts of the bank path quite hard going. All fish caught on the top half of the beat using size 14 black and gold nymph.

Another enjoyable day on this beat. We had rain and sun and unfortunately a serious RTC on main road which caused an Air ambulance to land on opposite side of field. Much more water in the river this time compared to my visit early May and much cleaner. Well the Trout stayed at home but the Grayling were on the feed. Tried across and down with on luck with trad wet flies - B/Butcher style. No takers. Fished head of swim straight line nymphing and all fish on the point fly - a Jonathan Barnes creation. Very small dark olives coming off and fishing taking midwater. Hopfully will be back again. Had a drink in Builth with bikers everywhere.

Arrived at about 8.30 and hiked up to the Edw Pool hoping against hope that there were a couple of salmon waiting for me.
Alas no, the pool was occupied by two otters, most indignant at my arrival. Didn't bother to cast a line and retreated back down to Lady Alexanders. Worked my way down to the end, without success.
Retired for a coffee and a rethink. A pair of Egrets arrived and commenced making an early lunch of the plentiful fry in the margins.
To save a blank, the trout gear came out. I had not seen a single fish rise during the morning, so went the nymph route.
Only managed a single graying, about 8", after fishing hard throughout.
The rain came at about 2 o'clock so decide to call it a day. Walking back to the hut another otter appeared, and just as I was leaving a squadron of goosander arrived.

Day started cloudy and drizzly before becoming sunny. Water was quite high but coloured. Up stream wind most of day made nymphing rather difficult. All fish caught with nymphs - all pretty small.

I was fishing on my own and covered the 3 pools suitable for fishing with a fly with no luck. No fish were showing. I particularly enjoyed fishing Lady Alexanders Catch; a most attractive pool.

I caught a half pound trout which I tried to return but it expired when I was removing the hook.

I noticed 2 people fishing, probably for trout, on the opposite bank near Abernant Stream in the morning.

The grayling have grown on and put up a terrific scrap. My fishing buddy had one knocking 2lb. What a fantastic stretch. Wading staff a must.
