Area:Monnow
Beat:Monnow Valley
Fishing:Winter Grayling
No. of Anglers:1
Two tiny grayling on a pink nymph and shrimp in the gast flowing upstream sections.
The water was low and very clear. The good thing about the polarised glasses is I coul see all the fish I spooked when I entered the river...some fish of around a pound in size were seen in the fast and slow flowing sections.
Despite the water levels being low there are some deeeep sections. The water level at Monnow Gate was 1.78m.
The parking is clearly signposted along with the access points which were kept clear. The rest of the vegetation is wonderfully wild and will be high on the list of beats to re-visit when the water is a bit higher

One fished and had a memorable day. Got the chub going on the drop and had well over 20 in a couple of hours. These included a new PB of 5.4lb, soon upstaged by his mate at 5.5lb! Stayed all day but was fairly quiet either side of the frantic 2 hour window. But still, catching 100lb of fish in a day is just brilliant. One thing to mention, there is now a large herd of cows grazing in the first two fields. They're quite intimidating, especially when on your own on this otherwise beautiful beat.
