Encountered bailiff's checking permits, never having fished the reservoir before i found them very friendly and helpful.

A lovely mild and calm day augured well, but very low water may explain the relative lack of fly - just a few trickle hatches of March Brown and no LDO evident. Despite this, a few decent fish did come to the surface. Five very chunky trout between 13-18” were caught and several others lost.

Great to be back on the river again. Water low and clear, weather not bad at all. I waited all day for that big early season hatch of flies which would bring the fish on feeding - but it never came. Never mind. Four pulls on a downstream nymph, of which one came to the net.

One lovely brown trout, perhaps 18 inches or so. Took a hare's ear nymph as soon as it landed.

River high and clear, hard going the rest of the day!
